Does anyone have any censuses before 1896 for Tobucksy county? Or any other information about places to find this information? I was told that Tobucksy county is present day Pittsburg Co. Can anyone confirm that? Kelli kmstapl@hotmail.com
Was your 1855 census for Bryan County? I found that the census were done by counties - a group of them together. Coal County gen web sites have absolutely nothing to offer in the way of census or anything else for that matter beyond present day statistics. If the Bryan County census is what you were looking for, I'm glad you found it! Tammy, Thanks - I think I have visited your site before looking for something in the now Coal County. I overlooked your chart of the present day vs latter day counties.... I see thta Coal isn't listed. I wonder if anyone knows what the former IT county name was for the present Coal County? I really like the information your have on your site - you've done a great job in helping our fellow searchers in the Choctaw Nation. I'm hoping that they have the sort of info that US census do - like names and birth places, etc. I'll let you know when I receive the one I ordered.... The URL for the Memorabilia Center is: http://member.aol.com/TMCorner/ I am not recommending these people that run the web site - I just sent an order in and don't know what kind of service I'll get yet. Also, they don't make it easy to order or to find further information about their items, but I haven't found these for sale anywhere else either. I've copied the category which is about half-way down their web page, and indicated where I clicked to find the Indian census: Hope this helps! I ordered my Choctaw 1855 Census from Bryan County Heritage Association for $20.
Has anyone ordered the Chickasaw or Choctaw Census from "The Memorabilia Center" web site? I just ordered one today for $30..... I'm hoping to find my Great-Grandfather, James H. Anderson who lived in Jeffs (now Tupelo, Coal County) which was on the borderline of Chickasaw/Choctaw border and I wasn't sure if I should try Choctaw first or Chickasaw. They have lots of Choctaw IT census for each of the counties as they were at the time of the Choctaw Nation IT.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about white intruders in Choctaw Territory. For those who asked for more info, here's what I came up with: The Memorabilia Corner 1312 McKinley Ave. Norman OK 73072-6535 405-321-8366 TMCorner@aol.com They have an amazing selection of books. The one I went looking for was Indians & Intruders by Sharron Ashton and found a 3 volume set, all for around 20.00 (each book). ( They also have about a kazillion dollars worth of other books I'd like to have!!) Thanks for everyone's help. Barbara
Hi Theresa, It is good to see you back on the board again! I hope that you had a great Christmas and the best of Holidays. I sent you a self addressed stamp envelope for the traditional trim just before the Christmas rush took over. But, I guess the mail got lost. Would you send me another set of directions for the appliqued tranditional trim. My address is: Ellen Scott 4010 New Mathis Rd. Elmendorf, Texas 78112 us2scotts@earthline.net I am trying to get the The Traditional Costume absolutely correct. I want to be proud to wear the traditional dress and honor all that has come before me when I wear it. I am trying, but I need help sometimes in places that I don't realize that I need the help. So, be patient with me. I want the Choctaw stamp of approval.
