In Vol 2 There are MARTIN listed, however, they are all listed as voters in the Old Cherokee Nation, first names are Ben and John. Stella BARNES is listed in the Marriage Records in the Cherokee Nation, 29 Dec 1894 [Doc#1396] Marrying W. P. PECK. Hi Nalora- Thank you for offering. I've got several surnames--some white and one Choctaw---to give you. If you find any of these would you give me a first name (if there aren't many)? Then I can tell you if they are my line. STAPLES DESHANE ELY HOLLOWAY (CHOCTAW) MARTIN, Alice (moved to Choctaw Nation about 1885) BARNES, Charlie I think all the above names were living in Choctaw Nation. I'm especially interested to find a divorce record for Alice Martin and Barnes. I'm assuming his first name is Charlie. Thanks! Kelli
Sandi: The contents of Vol.3 are basically just random "blurbs" taken from a variety of sources. The only thing I'd classify as a list is the Cherokee Civil War Claims Index. The others are short 1-2 line items, transcriptions of letters and newspaper articles. The Table of Contents is: Creek Indian Light Horsemen; Cherokee Civil War Claims Index; Chickasaw Nation Citizenship Records (1896-97), Our Brother in Red, Indian Territory News, Jan 1890 - May 1891; Early Choctaw Mission Students, 1823; Map of Pushmataha Dist, C.N.; Choctaw Nation Court Records, Blue Co., 1852-58; Peter James Hudson (short bio); Indian Captives in the Southwest, 1870-72 (transcription of letters from Indian Agent to various people concerning captives). Probably none of these categories contain the entire records; I believe they're just selected parts. I hope this helps. Barbara
Hi Sandi! These books might have something for us for Maria Ward Hall -- and they sound really interesting -- but maybe some one would do look ups for us -- if we asked for one thing or so at a time! How are you today! I am jazzed -- my cousin about 5 times removed, Robin Bailey and I have been corresponding -- she sent me a really neat picture of my great great Uncle Asher Beck and his family in Pittsburg Ok. I am going to go call my mom and ask her if she is picture ready!!!! Take care, with love, Cousin Gordon > Subj: Re: [CHOCTAW] Indians & Intruders - Sandi > Date: 3/18/00 5:34:44 PM !!!First Boot!!! > From: SandKatC@aol.com > Reply-to: CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com > To: CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com > > Hi Barbara: > > Thank you for the information. i found this on the PBS website. Indians, Outlaws, and Angie Debo: The American Experience Angie Debo's meticulous research of Oklahoma history brought her to a disturbing discovery: The five civilized Indian tribes of Oklahoma were the victims of a complex swindle. Major political figures had robbed and even murdered Indians who held oil-rich land. Banned from publication, Debo was shunned as troublemaker until Princeton University published her books in 1950. Today, her nine books serve as a cornerstone of American Indian scholarship, and her research is frequently cited as evidence in present-day federal court cases involving tribal land rights. This program outlines Debo's heroic life and her unique experience. Kelly, I am always willing to do lookups in the books I have here at home. I do sometimes ignore requests for lookups if they are too general, but anyone who sees my list of books, and says: Please look for THIS SURNAME in THIS BOOK of yours is pretty much guaranteed to get a lookup out of me. I am not sure what is in Vol 4 and 5, I have not been down to the Archives in a long while, and I bought 1 and 2 about a year ago. Sharron was all out of Vol 3 at the time, and I did not look at Vol. 4, but we talked about her finishing Vol 5. Two other compilations that I bought of hers are: Marriages, Deaths and Miscellany 1833-1837: Military and Naval Magazine of the United States and Army Navy Chronicle. and Marriages and Deaths 1838-1840: Army and Navy Chronicle wonderful stuff. Hi! I'm hunting for one of those ever elusive relatives. Roselee (or maybe Rose Lee, or Rosalee, well, you get the idea) lived for a time in Stigler, OK, with her husband? Sylvester Stewart. They had two sons. Around 1912 she supposedly returned to Eufaula, OK, leaving her sons with an uncle. (Apparently, Sylvester had left, as well. I know he wasn't dead.) Roselee Collier was, I am told, full-blooded Choctaw. She was also musically talented. She probably would have remarried. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I hope so. I'm getting pretty black and blue from running into so many walls! ;) Thanks, Trisha

Indians and Intruders is a 3-volume set and I have Volume 3 only. If you need a lookup from this book, I can help. Barbara
Jennifer, Now I realize who you are... What I mean is that I have read some of your postings/communications before, but not realized until now you are one and the same person. It sounds though as if you may have reason enough to doubt that at times! So you compile all of it ? Thanks for your gracious offers, appreciated! Can you or anyone else out there give me ideas for how to organize some of this info that I am accumulating? It bugs me to recognize the names of individuals that others are searching out, names that I have come across in my searches - but am lost relocating efficiently. ARushing
