    3. Jennifer: The Jena Band has a web page - type "Jena Band of Choctaw Indians" into your search engine and see what you get. They have gotten their federal recognition only in the last few years. They are the descendants of a handful of escapees from the Trail of Tears when it went through Monroe, La. on the Ouachita River. Clyde Jackson used to be chief, but he may be deceased now - I haven't been over there in 10-15 years. sherry dustyc@microgear.net -----Original Message----- From: ACutie4sur@aol.com <ACutie4sur@aol.com> To: CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com <CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, March 23, 2000 6:45 PM Subject: [CHOCTAW] Mississippi Choctaw-Jena Band of Choctaw HELP >Halito, > I am looking for more information on the Jena band of Choctaw indians... >If anyone can help me out I would appricate it.. 3. Hello Jennifer S. Irwin, First off: No, I have not found the way through the stone/brick wall or around it at this point. I read your posting today though and would be interested in corresponding with you re. IRWINs and NAs. My grandmother was an IRWIN and I am researching her ancestors (and mine). My address is: warmrushing@worldnet.att.net . I would imagine that you have quite a lot of ERWIN info already, right? ARushing

Does anyone remember the problem in the Fall over the typo errors? Well, I just have to laugh again. This must be the time for "Poltical Correctness Time" - believe me. I truley love this site. I found out that my brick wall wasn't Choctaw after all, but i still love it here, and wish I could be part of your clan. Just an intruder i guess. Love to all.

    3. We have a true Indian Uprising. That is how we will make all the wrongs right. Only this time we do it the right way. With our Hearts and all the Spirits that make us what we are and what is right RIGHT. Never forget honesty and purity. Be of one mind, body, soul and spirit.. We must ALL be as one. Then and only then will we win. We are the FIRST. Let our voices unite and be HEARD. Think my people " THINK ". I mean no offense to any. I am just at a loss as to how to deal with all the injustice and hardships we are forced to indure. My Pride is showing. I want it stopped yesterday. Wrong is wrong any way you cut it. And we as a people have and still are being WRONGED. Vickie

    1. Re: [CHOCTAW] Also offended by the word!
    2. I am new to the list....but, I do not find it disrespectful to be called a "squaw". I am glad that people see me as an Indian; or, part....as I am. I did find it sort of embarrassing as a child when a teacher of mine had called me a half-breed in front of my fellow classmates. At the time, I really didn't know what that word meant. But, he had said it in a way that made me think. Before that happened, a few years......one of cousins asked me if I was an Indian. My mother told me and my cousin (my mother had married his uncle....so, he didn't know) and his mother that I was part Indian. That my daddy and his family had Indian blood. So, I don't find it, in any way, an insult to be called a squaw. .....Mandy On Wed, 22 Mar 2000 23:38:43 -0800 Alicia Marseilles <raveneyes32@juno.com> writes: > To Scope, > You want to talk about respect?
