    3. Come on folks...surely we can get over the "being offended" ... after all these years! Let's get off the high horse and get back to "ye olde family history" and cut out the jawing. We are all in this together and if "this and that" continue to offend you, we are all on the wrong page. Surely you can get back to business and get your hearts off your shoulder. No one will accomplish anything this way. And you are preaching to the choir!

    2. Join the crowd Lisa..... I reason I am offended by the word Ignorant, is that when I was growing up non native american, but as a "okie child" we were ref to as those "ignorant okies" from Oklahoma who came to California. My father knew he was NA, but didnt say much unless you probed him. So we became those poor ignorant okies!!!!!!!! I guess we all have some baggage we carry around!!!!!!!!!!!! Well we might have been poor, but not ignorant, considering I was a straight A student all my school years. ( but I guess we did have that Okie accent..hehe) Lets all support each other!!! Most of all, lets preserve the NA heritage, over the years I have seen it slipping away. I also listed myself on the census at NA/chickasaw!!!!! my children and grandchilden did too, except for the oldest grandchild, who is NA/Hispanic, he had that right to choose!!!! to identify himself with his paternal family as well. The 2000 census if the first time my family has actually identified our NA heritage in over 100 years!!!!! Nancy Proud to be Native American

    3. Nancy Are you part African American too? My desendents are african American and Choctaw Freedmen. I have found quiet alot of history of my ancestry on the choctaw Freedmen Rolls, enough to know that my ancestors are a mix of African American and Choctaw do to intermarriage and also by illigitimate birth by the Choctaw slave master taking advantge of their female African American slaves way back when they all looked the other way when our female slave ancestors were in their prime. I am still proud of my African American blood line as well as my Native american blood line, I can't and wouldn't change who and what I am, because I AM THAT I AM. At my work place I have begun to educate them on the use of the word, Indian, Squaw,Buck, and others. They were shocked because they sd they learned these names in school. 2. I have a bad habit of using the word America Indian. I am married to a "Native American" and he isn't affended by the term American Indian. I Understand why there could be people offended but I also think that it has alot to do with the way that it is used. I am very proud of my husband's hertiage which is also my childrens. They will be marked as native American on the census report. If I use the term American Indian on this list please don't think of it in a negative way. I by no way mean to be offensive. I am still trying to figure out what the heck I am!!!! Lisa Colbert

    2. I have both Criders and Austins on my "Cathey" side of my family. Some seem to be cousins...strange enough when I was growing up here in Calif, I had some friends who were Criders & Austins, and they were cousins, but I did not know they might be mine also???? If you would like I can look up this line of Catheys and give you some names..... Now, Im not sure if the have any Native american connection, most of my Catheys do not...that is an old family of English/Scotts. Except for a family I found married into a family named "Hawk" I am not sure who the Hawks were, but it sounded NA. I monitor this site for Knowledge and hoping some day the name "Gann" will pop up more often, thats my NA side and poss the name Sarah Mills? Nancy M. Cathey Tenhet A Chickasaw Sister
