    3. Howdy! I am forwarding this blurb to alert you to a source some of you might find useful. It is a commercial site, currently free, but they expect that to change. I've watched the site develop over the past year or so from a bit of a clunker to a user-friendly resource. The site, based in Singapore, can be found at: http://www.chineseroots.com It is available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Below is a blurb describing what they are trying to accomplish: "Chineseroots.com, based in Singapore, is using modern technology to help people trace their family histories by tapping into its database of records of almost every birth and marriage in China over the last 3,000 years. These records are kept in ancestry booklets called 'Jia Pu.' So far 12,000 volumes have been entered into the Chineseroots.com database. The whole set is expected to be digitized in six months' time. The site also has a list of 1,300+ surnames and their origins and is working on English-language immigration records so people can enter their dialects in English to trace their origins. There are also a variety of articles to help you trace your Chinese ancestry. The site is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English. It is currently entirely free, but users will eventually be charged for access to the database of Jia Pu."
