    1. [CHINA] Death notice
    2. David M. Lawrence
    3. My great-grandfather, Yee Jock-Leong, died in Dayton, Ohio, on 5 Dec 1938. This death notice apparently appeared in the Dayton newspaper, but I don't know when. Please pay attention to his Chinese name and his American name. If you're stuck looking for ancestors, think of how some overworked or apathetic immigration officer might have butchered the name. Also, my grandmothers name is spelled Yut Seul, not Yut Ceul as is given in the notice. (Before anyone quibbles, my great-grandfather and grandmother were born in the U.S., so the romanized versions of the Chinese names are probably primary, and any representation of the name in Cantonese characters would probably been an act of nostalgia more than anything else.) By the way, I feel so stereotypically challenged. My great-grandfather WAS a Chinese laundryman! (Of course, the chemicals are probably killed him at a fairly young age of 52.) Later, Dave Dayton Chinese Laundryman Dies Yee Jackson Operated Shop Here for 20 Years Yee Jackson, who for 20 years ran a Chinese laundry at 318 West Third Street, died early Friday morning in St. Elizabeth hospital. Born in San Francisco 52 years ago of Chinese parents, he came to Dayton 20 years ago and entered the laundry business. He lived with his family at 510 Jackson Street, and was a member of Sacred Heart church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Myrtle Jackson, and a daughter, Yut Ceul Jackson. The body was removed to the Grant Riesinger funeral home, 1856 West Third street. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ David M.
