Hello listers Can anyone offer me guidance on researching an Englishman who died in China - no idea where. He was Edmund Lewis ROBINSON b1878 London, England; d1909 China. My information is that he went to China to assist with the development of the railways - probably as a land surveyor. Even pointers as to railway history in China at this time would be useful - maybe I could find the companies involved and then attempt to search their records. Also, does anyone know what happened to foreigners dying in China at this time? Were they buried in special foreigner cemeteries? If they were hundreds of miles from the main centres for foreigners (e.g. Shanghai) were they buried alongside the Chinese community? I am aware that Chinese culture is different to 'European' culture and I wonder how this would have affected the work on the railways especially in Imperial China. Thank you in advance for any thoughts, guidance. Regards Chris Rodgers Bristol, UK
