It looks like a spammer got through the Rootsweb spam filter. I've taken steps to try and bust this guy before he does it again. I apologize for the inconvenience. Posted on: General China Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/China/General/291 Surname: ------------------------- Believe your gf's name was Ko A Fath based on your transliteration. Could have been written Ko Ah Fat or something similar. That means his surname was Ko and his given name was Fat(Fath)while the "A" (Ah) is just a common attachment. As to which surname Ko, it is hard to tell unless you know the Chinese character. Fath (Fat) generally means prosperous. What is the "Koa Zave"?
Posted on: General China Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/China/General/290 Surname: Samuel Teong, Chy John Daniel, Antonowitch Emma Annie, Parker Clarence William ------------------------- Hi James, Lovely to hear from you. How exciting - I was thrilled to hear from you. I think we are related too. It could be a bit distant, as my Grandmother had three husbands, one of which was Samuel. These are the details I have so far: Sam was born in 1861 in Mudgee (BC 10014 - Father ? and mother Harriette. In 1893 Sam married Emma A Antonowitch (Emma A Spearman on Marriage Cert No. 4948). in Mudgee. He was Emma's third husband. In 1893 Annie Ivy Teong was born in Mudgee (23978). In 1896 Richard P Teong was born in Mudgee (23554). IN 1910 Samuel H V Teong died (DC F Samuel W MCS M Lilian R) In 1931 a Samuel Teong died in Mudgee (aged 73 years) BDM. In 1947 another Samuel Teong died 6.9.1947 aged 85 -buried in Portland Cemetary. I am more interested in John Daniel Chy who was Emma Annie Antonowitch's second wife. On their marriage certificate Annie I Teong was a witness, so they must have been friends. John Daniel Chy was born in 1826 in China he arrived in Australia approx 1846. He was a jeweller and lived in Mudgee. In 1884 Ethel May Chy was born. She was my mother Theresa Moore (Parker) mother. Her first husband was Benjamin Spearman. I have lots more info. I have not posted it on the web yet as it is still a work in progress. But if you would like to contact me directly or, or if you have an e-mail address I could send you a copy of my Tree so far. There is also a lady living in Portland. I have spoken to her by phone, but she does not have any info. Regards, hope to hear from you soon. Barbara Moore barbaramoore@bigpond.com

Resubmitting information in the hope someone else is researching this name. John DANIEL(S) was born about 1827 in China and migrated to Australia. He married Johanna GLENNIER/GLENDISR/GLENDENNING who was born in Germany about 1831. It is not known if John's parents were of Chinese origin or if the family just happened to be in China at the time. Also unknown is if John had changed his name to DANIEL/S after arriving in Australia. I would appreciate any help I can get on this one. Lee Haley Lennox Head Australia
Howdy! I am forwarding this blurb to alert you to a source some of you might find useful. It is a commercial site, currently free, but they expect that to change. I've watched the site develop over the past year or so from a bit of a clunker to a user-friendly resource. The site, based in Singapore, can be found at: http://www.chineseroots.com It is available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Below is a blurb describing what they are trying to accomplish: "Chineseroots.com, based in Singapore, is using modern technology to help people trace their family histories by tapping into its database of records of almost every birth and marriage in China over the last 3,000 years. These records are kept in ancestry booklets called 'Jia Pu.' So far 12,000 volumes have been entered into the Chineseroots.com database. The whole set is expected to be digitized in six months' time. The site also has a list of 1,300+ surnames and their origins and is working on English-language immigration records so people can enter their dialects in English to trace their origins. There are also a variety of articles to help you trace your Chinese ancestry. The site is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English. It is currently entirely free, but users will eventually be charged for access to the database of Jia Pu." John Daniel(s) born about 1827 in China migrated to Australia, married Johanna Glennier/Glendisr/Glendenning who was born in Germany about 1831. Johanna may also have been known as Sarah or he may have remarried a Sarah. John died in 1871 in Leyburn, Queensland, Australia and Sarah died a few days later. John had six children. One of these, Elizabeth, has her mother listed as Ann Cane so there is some confusion with the family. Another daughter, Sophia married a James Haley. If anyone has information on these families I would love to hear from you. Lee Haley
