If you are he, I will be glad to supply you with the information that I have on the Chesser and the Plant lines. Please contact me at either "cchesser@mindspring.com" or 770-934-3940. The "Tennyson" and some alternate spellings go throughout the Chesser lines. Almost every generation has some. I have all of Samuel Thacker Chesser's siblings and the direct descendents of Samuel back about 5 or 6 generations. Call me or email me. I saw your mother at Paul's funeral. Chess Chesser

I am tracing the family of Israel Chesser and Elizabeth Stanley, who married in Greene Co., PA. on 26 Dec 1833. This family moved to Knox Twp, Vinton Co., Ohio in the 1840s. From an 1875 Atlas of Knox Twp. I note that Israe Chesser owned land adjoining that of W. S. McWhorter. Also, adjoining that property was a lot owned by J. McWhorter. Israel and Elizabeth Chesser had 10 children, one of the was William who was born around 1847. He married Mahalia Myers in 1865. William disappears from the census rolls in 1880. However, Mahalia was not listed as a widow, and we have found no death record for him. (Since posting this message I have received possible information that he left the family and did not die.) I have no information that this family came from Canada. One person on the WEB said their heritage was Dutch and Irish. However, I can find no confirmation of that. Do you know when your William first appeared in Iowa?

Am happy to exchange any information about this family. Carol, near Leesburg, VA

Of course, nothing has been documented yet, but I'm working on it! I'll also be glad to share any info I have. I'm looking foward to hearing from you and discovering if we're related. My grandfather came out of Canada and married in PA. His name was Willliam Chesser. We believe he had a brother but have no name for him. William was supposed to have been born in Canada in 1840. We do not have any certification of this. We believe my grandmother was a Walker. William migrated to Iowa and had 12 or 13 children with Walker. My father was last child and he new very little of his heritage. Are we connected in anyway?

The Story Tellers..... We are the chosen. My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it For us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. (Unknown Author)
My gggrandfather was Drayton A. Chesser of Lockhart. I think one of his sons was a Joe Chesser who was the brother of my ggrandfather, John D. Chesser. I have more info on Drayton, but not on Joe.
I am a Chesser in Iowa. My father was the last of 13 children of William Chesser. I have lots of pictures and information on family members. I do not have any info on just where William came from and his ancestors. Please contact me if you would like to share info.
Hi Kim, I am not a Chesser but my wife is. I am interested in Genealogy and have not even been able to find my father. But I have had some luck with the Chesser family. We live in San Angelo, Tx and have visited the Lockhart cemetery. I don't know where you live but if distance is a problem for you I will be glad to share what I have. But first we must know that we are talking about the same people. D.A. Chesser had a son named Joseph Weldon and I have some lineage information on this branch of the tree. If you are interested, let me know. I must warn you that it may take a day or so because I lost my hard drive with my info on it. Wouldn't you know that I made no back-ups, so I will have to rummage through notes and sources. At any rate I will be more than happy to help because I know how hard it is to find my father. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kim_upston@hotmail.com> To: <CHESSER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2001 7:10 PM Subject: Lockhart Chessers? > > > My greatgrandparent lived in Lockhart, Texas.
