I am 2 months new to researching my family line since the death of my grandmother Iva Mildred (Chesser) Ballowe. I am looking for further info pertaining to her family. Walter (R.?) Chesser born I believe in Garland County, AR. Oct 3, 1894, died in 1942. Had at least 2 other sons. Worthen Chesser and Walter Chesser, with Lillie E. Clemons and later they divorced. Lillie later had another child with another spouse. Here is part of the obituary as found in the Hot Springs, AR, Sentinel Record, Saturday June 7, 2003. Funeral Home was Caruth-Hale. If anyone knows this family line I would love to find out more. Thank you Bryan Ballowe -------------------- IVA M. 1. Claude Chesser, b. 1890
    2. Howard Busch
    3. I received this from Mike Cobb and he gave me permission to quote it here: "One Sarah Jane Cobb married an unknown Mr. Chesser about 1889, probably in either Hunt or Fannin County. They had one "known" child, a son Claude in 1890, before Mr. Chesser died. Sarah Jane Cobb Chesser married a second time, to Henry Thomas Tucker in 1893 in Hunt County. From then until 1930, that family totally vanished off the face of the earth, although one of Henry's sons by his first marriage was living in Love Co, OK in 1920. Claude Chesser disappeared too. I am of the opinion that he must have been raised by Chesser relatives, as there is no mention of him among the Cobb-Tucker descendants. While a good many of the Fannin County Chessers moved up into Oklahoma, Claude apparently thought better of it. His life is a large blank until his death in Kleberg Co, TX in 1977." I had contacted Mike to see if he could shed any light on my grandmother's marriage to an unknown Cobb some time before 1941. She was born Viola Chesser, her first marriage was to Varney Williams, my grandfather. I've been told that she was married four times in all. One to a porter who was an oilman. I found a marriage record somewhere to a Payton that could have been hers. Would love to hear from anyone who can shed any light on Claude Chesser or my Viola Chesser Williams Porter ? Cobb. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gYI.2ACEB/113.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hmmmm?....I am not very helpful but, I can give you an idea about my story. Researching my grandmother's line on my mother's side of the family. No dates but here is what I got starting with my great great parents (again on my mother's side): LEVI BURNETT married FLORENCE CANILLA CHESSER in ARKANSAS. children were (do not know true chronical order of kids just names my mom remembers); ELWOOD BURNETT, SYDNEY BURNETT, RUTH MARIE BURNETT, EUDORA BURNETT (SAIN) last remembered married name for this person, but can not prove. GLADYS BURNETT COLLINS. As far as I know all were from ARKANSAS, POPE COUNTY< ATKINS COUNTY<LITTLE ROCK< RUSSELLVILLE. Grandma RUTH MARIE was born on 2/12/1928. F. CHESSER had to of been @ least childbearing age then, say 14-20 years old. So we are looking @ a date around 1908 to 1914 in ARKANSAS. Grandma Ruth had bright red-orange hair, thick and coarse. freckles everywhere and brown eyes. My mom said grandma was Irish & Indian (Cherokee tribe). Did not g! o socializing much because both nationalities were looked down upon by others, they were minorities. Lived in the country. I have 2 photographs of my Grandma Chesser. She was very skinny, & med. tall., in a very dusty dark dress/coat thing, ankle covering laced shoes, and a big black shotgun hanging off her arm. Her she had high cheek bones & dark hair pulled away from her face. No smile with eyes squinting against the sun. I can not truely prove the Indian part of our History, or confirm it with the pictures I have. Grandpa Burnett was tall & had a big boned stature, light hair & eyes, all of their children were born with brown eyes. I guess that is enough babbling from me , Thank you for your response, Stephanie

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Chesser Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gYI.2ACEB/238 Message Board Post: My name is Samuel Chesser. I am 34 and currently live in south Florida. I am new to this email group and relatively new to geneology. I stumbled across the Chesser group on Rootsweb, and I thought I would make an attempt to dig a little further into my past. I was born and raised in Folkston, GA. Yes, THAT Folkston--near the Okefenokee Swamp and Chesser Island. I still visit "home" a couple of times per year. Coincidentally, I worked during high school at the Swamp as a tour guide. (Later, my younger brother did as well.) Most of the Chesser information that I have collected is from my parents, my grandma, a great aunt (who subsequently passed away), a few other relatives, a couple of books about the Okefenokee and Charlton County, and from a couple of cemetaries near Folkston (Sardis and the one near Traders Hill). I also discovered some really cool "missing info" from Rootsweb which helped me to fill-in a few missing holes on my hand-drawn family tree. Essentially, here is where I fit into the Chesser line (as best as I can tell) . . . -I am Samuel N. Chesser. -My father is Norman Chesser Jr. (living). -His father was Norman Gray Chesser. -His father was Wiley L. Chesser (b. 1878). -His father was Moab Columbus Chesser (b. 1846). -His father was Willam Thomas Chesser (b. 1812). He was the original "homesteader" on Chesser Island--rumored to have run to the Swamp from murder charges elsewhere in Georgia--charges which were later dropped when it was determined the killing was in self-defense. -His father was Thomas Samuel Chesser (b. 1776). The unconfirmed rumors I have for him are that he was born in SC, his family was from Ireland, and he married Mary Gray, daughter of Samuel Gray. If anyone's family line touches mine, if you have any stories to share, or if anyone can trace back further than Thomas Samuel, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks. -Sam samiamiami@hotmail.com
