Caroline Belgium or ( Bell ) Clemens -PA and William Vincent Chesser -WV were my ggg. grandparents. John Chesser and Ann Eliza McWhorter were my gggg. grandparents. My ggg. grandmother Caroline Belgium Clemens might be William Vincent Chesser's second wife-which would explain why M. Myers was not listed as a widow. I have nothing beyond John Chesser (have to go in european records perhaps), but I have the McWhorter's to the 1724 Delaware colonies. Here's the tricky part. My ggg. grandmother Caroline Belgium Clemens was maybe adopted into the Clemen's family by a George Clemens & his wife (name?). What I do have is several tin-types of Caroline as an older woman, one of Caroline as a teenager standing next to an older woman (her adopted mother???) who is very pale compared to my ggg. grandmother, & a large oval portrait orf her in a tortiseshell frame. I also have one of her victorian-era jackets-my grandmothers were all pack rats. My family was in PA & WV & TN for centuries & beyind-however, I'm a first generation Californian. 25 April 2004 P. Harvey: I have researched through all my Chesser family data. The earliest Chesser I have is John W. Chesser, Born 1842. All Chessers are from 1842 to present. Chesser born about 1834 is the oldest one that I can find. Can find him in Williamson County, TN on the 1850 census, I think. It is only initials but they fit and the age fits but no father and the mother is E. Chesser. Can find a marriage record in Robertson County, TN for July 22, 1858 when he married Amanda W. Franklin. But after that I find him with a wife, Mary (and we are still unsure of her last name) in Wayne, Lewis and Perry Counties in Tennessee. Matthew named his first born, William Thomas, then James H., Annie Elizabeth (my great grandmother), Mary E. (called Mollie), Joseph R., Rose E., Drucilla J., Elisha M. (called Hue or Hugh), Leora Josephine, and Charles M. I have found some of the children buried in West Tennessee. Does any of this sound like it might fit?

IN Genealogical Library about the Godwin Family (and Chessers) written by a man named Warren Godwin Chesser of Pennsylvania. He died in the 60's as I recall, but did the entire 2nd generation Chesser family incl Purnell Chesser of Accomack Co. VA. There are photos incl. Purnell's home on the Delmarva Peninsula (Where Delaware, Maryland, Virginia meet east of Chesapeake Bay.) Chincoteague Is. is a little to the north of where they lived. No mention of Native American Heritage--only Anglo-Irish. My husband also descends from these Chessers, earlier than Purnell, but my husband and his father Francis Chesser looked amazingly like Warren Godwin (All with light brown hair with blue eyes.)
