Hi Juliet, I'm not sure, but I also think the first letter is a "H" - from looking at the enumerator's script in other entries. So my suggestion is that a remark has been made by the enumerator "Husband Boatman" Not knowing the family - was there a husband, and was he living at this time? He would more likely be the boatman (although it would not be an impossibility for a widow to take over a boat) I'm more use to an enumerator making the comment "head of the house away from home" but each to there own.........and maybe it was considered an inappropriate entry and was therefore struck through. regards, Elaine. -----Original Message----- From: juliet Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2013 2:23 PM To: CHESHIRE@rootsweb.com Subject: [CHS] Help with words on 1841 census I am struggling to read something on a census image and wonder is someone with 1841 census access of ancestry could help. Its in the profession column alongside ANN EVANS age 40 at Bebington HO107; Piece: 125; Book: 3; Civil Parish: Bebington; County: Cheshire; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 12; Page: 19; Line: 17; GSU roll: 241253. I could post the link to the image but it is huge. Is comes straight up searching on Ann Evans born 1801 exactly, location Cheshire and its the 3rd one on the list. The first word begins with H and the second work looks like Boatman but I cannot make it out. I would be very grateful for some ideas, as it may help me work out if I have the right family. Thanks very much Juliet ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to CHESHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
