Thanks for trying Alan. (FMP's interface is strange - ask it to search PRs and it gives you everything - PRs, BTs, and marriage licences, despite them supposedly being different options). I've just been randomly trying other types and dates and still fail to find any Cheadle PRs - though it's hardly been a comprehensive search. In my (probably fallible) memory I thought I'd read none other than Brett Langston saying only Astbury and Northenden were missing from the Cheshire collection on FMP - Astbury because the parish retained the PRs and Northenden because it's actually in the Diocese of Manchester so out of scope. Cheadle St. Mary is in the Diocese of Chester but it's beginning to look like that should be added to the list... "Unless, of course, you know different..." Specifically, baptisms for 1796? And if so, how? ....
I wonder if because these records where moved if it now explains why my relatives were baptised twice. The second time was many years after their first baptism from around 1818 in Cheadle to 1839 in Denton the same date in 1839 as his brother James who was also born in Cheadle. The following is what I have on this person. Mike Morris Toronto Canada. Christening: 03 MAR 1839 St Lawrence, Denton, Lancashire, England Batch No. C171341 The above is confusing , It was from the IGI site and gives the above batch number, The parents Henry and Maria PARSONAGE could be correct but the date is many years out. A friend checked this record out and said these were in the parish records. (Not copied from another source) There were no dates of birth or any mention of the fact that they were children or adults. A copy of this parish record showing Samuel and brother James where baptised on the same date. A copy of a trade directory for 1817 Manchester shows a Henry Parsonage a Plumber and Glazier #5 Brewer street in Manchester. So Samuel was born perhaps after the move from Brewer street. Samuel was born around 1818. He married in the July of 1842. Its a long shot but I wonder if he was christened late in life before he married. He was christened the same date as his brother James, but married in a different church at a different date. Its possible the church Samuel was christened in was St. Mary (C of E) in Cheadle. An ancient parish, originally comprising the townships of Cheadle Bulkeley, Cheadle Moseley, and Handforth cum Bosden. Registers of baptisms 1558-1880, marriages 1558-1913 and burials 1558-1911 are on microfilm at the CRO. Samuel was born in 1818 in Cheadle, Cheshire per the Denton 1851, 1861 and 1871 census. Samuel was listed as age 20 in the 1841 Denton census. During this census ages were rounded out , its possible that Samuel was age 23 during this census. Ref No .HO 107 581/4 Ed 3 folio 8 .
