I agree with Ruth. I think that genealogists are just becoming greedy in the search for ever more information. Peter Calver, in his latest Lost Cousins Newsletter, also makes the point that we are fighting to keep future censuses happening as they have in the past. It will make it that much more difficult to persuade people to divulge their information if they think that any promise given at the time to keep that information private can be overturned on a whim, or by pressure from a special interest group.
