    3. <<snipped>> unless I'm very much mistaken you can only add facts by going through official records and SUBSCRIBING! <<snipped>> <<snipped>> I too have registered and found the same thing. I don't want to pay for stuff I already have. I am happy to share but will not be doing so if it means forking out money. Also the how to do it pages were not functioning. <<snipped>> Very risky this because I haven't signed up yet, but the site says: "You can use Lives of the First World War as a Visitor, a Member, or a Friend. " As a Visitor you can search for Life Stories, view all the facts people have added to Life Stories, and explore the History section. " As a Member you can ***add*** to a Life Story and Remember an individual. To do this, you need to create an account and log in so we can show who has added each piece of information. Becoming a member is ***free***. <<<<my emphasis here. AB " As a Friend of Lives of the First World War you can view premium content and access special features by paying a subscription. " The 90-second video for adding information says that you can "add an external reference if you've found information in other sources" and also that you can add your own personal knowledge, though the implication is that that goes into a separate pot. Reasonable if you want a robust set of data. https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/adding-to-a-life-story seems to imply that "facts" can be sourced via the Personal Knowledge option. This and the external reference option seem to make it feasible to add any information as a Member rather than a paying Friend. But that's all on a quick read - am I missing something? Adrian B PS I also found difficulty on the how-to pages with the Flash videos, which I put down to my Flash block extension in Firefox - I usually just download the Flash movie and watch it on my PC and that worked as usual.

    3. The External Sources section allows you to put in a publication where you have found information. I put in Geoff Compton's book '34 Men', the publisher, year and IBSN number. I am quite happy to put some text in the story section but it seems silly not to have all the dates and details in position.  As Lyn says we have all the relevant information to hand, a lot of which we have paid for in the first place. I am pleased that it's not just me. Kathleen. ________________________________ From: Adrian Bruce <abruce@madasafish.com> To: cheshire@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, 12 May 2014, 17:55 Subject: Re: [CHS] IWM Lives of the First World War Project <<snipped>> unless I'm very much mistaken you can only add facts by going through official records and SUBSCRIBING! <<snipped>> <<snipped>> I too have registered and found the same thing.
