There are of course some records which come up when Cheshire is entered so you need to know which you want for any particular record set. There is at least one Cheshire parish that does not appear in FMP because it is in the Diocese of Manchester (and presumably therefore on Ancestry!), while there are plenty of entries in the Act Books for probate and marriage licences in Lancashire precisely because the Diocese of Chester included Lancashire at the time of the compilation of the Act Books. Without understanding the difference (and the coverage of the old Diocese at various times) you might be looking in entirely the wrong place. It may be an unfashionable viewpoint but I do believe that if we are going to start specifying individual datasets, then we seriously ought to understand what the datasets actually are, starting with their name. I suspect the problem has partly arisen because the "Cheshire Collection" page used to link to all the PRs and BTs as well as the non-conformist, workhouse, etc. Now, as far as I recall, the PRs and BTs are no longer linked into the "Cheshire Collection" - this may be because the Collection page now links into the "proper" dataset names rather than mythical intermediates such as "Cheshire PRs"(???), which never actually existed as a dataset. This means the list of "proper" dataset names is now approaching 3 times as long as it was so I suspect they snipped the PRs and BTs out. Adrian B
