Hi All, I believe that the Dukinfield Cemetery was established approx 1866. For persons of the C of E faith, where would they have been buried in (or around) Dukinfield before that? Does anyone know of burial records before 1866 and how they may be accessed? Thanks Geoff Roosen Melbourne, Australia Still looking for KINDER family members.

See http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/dukinfield.html Looks to me like St. John the Evangelist is the likeliest option from several - depending on date. See http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/churches/dukinfield-st%20john.html For an index to burials, see FamilySearch. https://familysearch.org/search Images of the parish registers are on FindMyPast. Hi Geoff, before 1866 the population would have been buried at several C of E Churches depending on where they lived, you have to remember that Dukinfield Cemetery sits very near to the Lancashire/Cheshire border. Ashton under Lyne residents would be buried in St. Michaels (the new graveyard), St.Peters, Christ Church and St. John's. Residents on the Cheshire side would be buried at St. Michaels (Ashton under Lyne), St. Paul's Stalybridge and Mottram in Longdendale parish church and possibly other's I don't know about. Some of the records of the Ashton under Lyne Churches can be found on the Lancashire Online Parish Clerk website, the Cheshire ones on FindMyPast though not all will be as late as 1866. Copies of all the church records in the area are kept at the Tameside Archive Centre, Ashton under Lyne. Vanessa All records are subject to error. Let they without typo caste tea thirst scone!
