Hi Lynda, Cleaning gravestones - try warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse well afterwards. That worked quite well on my dad's kerbstone in Macclesfield Cemetery (sandstone). The inscription on the kerb was carved & then painted black, so my son in law re-did the lettering with black modelling enamel paint. It worked very well although I don't know how long the enamel will last in the weather. You could also try contacting the CWGC. They cleaned many of the gravestones in their care a few years ago & I believe they may have used a very dilute bleaching agent to clean the white marble. Hi I wonder if anyone is researching the Duckworth family who lived at Curzon House, Curzon Park, Chester early 1900s? I have just discovered that one of my relatives - Kathleen Nancy Jones from Wrexham - appears to have married the eldest son, William Innes Duckworth, 1938. The father, Walter Battersby Duckworth was a cotton merchant of English parentage but born in Savannah, Georgia, USA c. 1879. He was in partnership at Chester with Joseph Battersby Duckworth & Hubert Battersby Duckworth - probably three brothers. Walter was also at Liverpool. Just checked on a web page and seems Joseph was the father and Walter & Hubert sons. Anyone connected out there? Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz
