Hi All, I thought it might be appropriate to warn people that there seems to be another round of scam phone calls in progress. For the last three days I've had calls supposedly from Microsoft, telling me that there was something wrong with my computer and that I needed to update my CLSID. It's a scam - if you get one of these, hang up. I let them ramble on a bit & then told them not to talk rubbish before I hung up. The following link, although from last year, explains what it's about & I found it very interesting/useful: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/68552-63-warning-scam The bottom comment on the page is the most useful to know "Microsoft will only contact you if you request it! Do not fall for the scam!" Regards Lesley Baxendale Colwyn Bay
<<snipped>> I've had calls supposedly from Microsoft, telling me that there was something wrong with my computer <<snipped>> All sorts of lying ****** variants on this. I'm actually quite surprised if they said that they were from Microsoft as that puts them at risk from a real company - normally they say that they are from the technical department of - the World Wide Web (it's not an organisation so can't have a technical department), - the Internet (ditto), - Windows (it's a product not an organisation so again it doesn't have a technical department) Apparently they might tell you - if you let them near the machine - that there are all sorts of error messages - and you then get worried because those messages are there. Relax. Any PC will produce lots of messages as a perfectly normal part of doing its job - that's all those messages are. (Don't bother trying to understand the messages - the days are long gone when any non-Windows specialist could understand the messages). Adrian
There are lots of examples of people winding up junk callers but this classic one must be the best! http://www.hark.com/clips/qlztssnyzk-telemarketer-calls-murder-scene http://goo.gl/kTD9Bu There is no bad language etc, just a very funny wind up of some poor junk caller. Hello folks Some do say "Microsoft". One called my father's when I was there..."that will be difficult we do not have a computer" which was quite true for dad's home!! Rapid end of call.
