I have hitherto used The Master Genealogist, but find myself in a similar situation as they have discontinued the support. For a while I have used Roots Magic for others' research, which I find very intuitive and comprehensive. At the moment I cannot recommend version 7 as I have found several glitches; however, Version 6 is still available here: http://rootsmagic.com/download/rootsmagic-6/ and is worth a try.
