<<snipped>> Adrian, have you tried contacting Cheshire South Methodist Circuit directly? See here: http://www.cheshiresouth.org.uk/contact.html <<snipped>> Good thought Ruth - I hadn't worked out where the chapel ended up in current Circuits, so thanks for that. Adrian B
Resending this, as it was returned last time. Hope someone can help. ----- Original Message ----- From: Alan To: cheshire@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 19, 2014 1:42 PM Subject: Wills Hoping somebody on the list can help. Found a precis of an early will, which contains the words, "bequest to poor of -----. power reserved". Power reserved is a new one on me! Any advice or information appreciated, as I have no idea what this might mean. The gent in question was a mariner, if this has any relevance. Angela
Adrian, have you tried contacting Cheshire South Methodist Circuit directly? See here: http://www.cheshiresouth.org.uk/contact.html They may be able to give you a clue as to what may have happened to any records. Ruth
(Since it looks like we're back...) Anyone able to say whether there is a burial register available for Bradeley Road Primitive Methodist (PM) Chapel in Haslington? I'm looking for some lost Coopers from 1870s to 1890s - for instance, Eliza Cooper, d Q2 of 1890 aged 14. The family's baptisms are recorded in the Circuit book of the Sandbach PM circuit at a time when they lived in Haslington / Crewe Green. This suggests to me that they attended Bradeley Road PM Chapel (unless there's another PM Chapel in Haslington?) but that it didn't have its own baptism register so the entries were made in the Circuit's register. As for burials, the missing children are not in St. Matthew's burial register of this time and there is a small burial ground at Bradeley Road PM chapel. Unfortunately, while I know the MIs have been published (there can't be many), I cannot find any indication anywhere in Chester RO or LDS catalogue of an existing burial register. Or a Circuit burial register - if there is such a thing. Anyone know of anything I might be able to consult? As is often the case this is surely not that important in the overall scheme of things but I've got obsessed with wondering what happened to them! Thanks Adrian B
Thanks for your replies Helen Adrian Dorothy and Carol, I was just asking whether anyone else was having the same problem and if so what did they do to put it right. I wasn't sure as to whether it was a scam after I had registered, some other company posing as FMP. Ancestry and Rootsweb crashed under a heavy co-ordinated DDOS attack on the 16th and they've been working on the fix ever since. Rootwebs came back up here in the states last night, and I began getting emails again this afternoon. Brian PS. More than likely everyone is going to start sending test pings and make it all worse before it gets better.

Hello folks Some do say "Microsoft". One called my father's when I was there..."that will be difficult we do not have a computer" which was quite true for dad's home!! Rapid end of call. I have received those calls here in Canada. My usual reply is to advise the caller to get a real job expressed in nautical terms (if you get the drift) On 2014-06-16, at 3:21 PM, w Simkins wrote: > Hello folks > > Some do say "Microsoft". Yes, I had one today too and let the young woman ramble on before I had great joy in telling her I didn't have a Windows computer so how could I be "registered" with them. She couldn't answer that probably cos it wasn't on the script. There are lots of examples of people winding up junk callers but this classic one must be the best! http://www.hark.com/clips/qlztssnyzk-telemarketer-calls-murder-scene http://goo.gl/kTD9Bu There is no bad language etc, just a very funny wind up of some poor junk caller. Martin Briscoe Fort William martin@mbriscoe.me.uk
The other way is to say that you have several computer so which one do they mean. A friend did this and switched on an ancient very slow laptop that was not connected to the Internet because he was interested to see how they work the scam. They told him to bring up the CMD prompt then type in a DIR command for a particular file extension, this brought up hundreds of matches (they were some very obscure system files). They expressed concern because the computer was heavily infected and wanted him to give them remote access. I just do not pick up any International, Withheld etc calls and also any numbers that I do not recognise. I let the answer machine take the call, if it is a genuine call then they will speak but the majority either hand up or are just silent. You have to bear in mind that it is quite easy to fake the number displayed on your phone or buy blocks of numbers around the country so some scam / junk callers use a number on your local exchange to make it look genuine. When they hang up I look up the number, most times other people have been getting junk / scam calls from the same number and often someone will have identified them though often you find the same number has been used for lots of different junk or scam calls over the years. http://whocallsme.com/ I then store the number in my DECT phone's contacts and set it to be in a JUNK group which has a suitable selective ring so I know next time it is a junk caller without having to look. There are a few devices that you can get to intercept these type of calls but let friends numbers connect as normal. The best known is this one, I would buy one tomorrow if they improved it slightly in one area. http://www.truecall.co.uk/home.aspx Martin Briscoe Fort William martin@mbriscoe.me.uk -----Original Message----- From: cheshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cheshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jenni Sent: 16 June 2014 10:09 To: CHESHIRE-L Subject: Re: [CHS] Non-gen - Another round of scam phone calls Yes, I had one today too and let the young woman ramble on before I had great joy in telling her I didn't have a Windows computer so how could I be "registered" with them. For the last three days I've had calls supposedly from Microsoft, telling me that there was something wrong with my computer and that I needed to update my CLSID.
