    2. Hello all, Does anyone have access to the MI's for Bethesda Methodist Cemetery that was at Cheadle Edgeley. I think that Stockport Library has the MIs from the cemetery, but very little else in the way of information. The cemetery had been over taken by a row of shops. My 3G grandmother Ann, wife of Luke Shaw, died 24.03.1838 Stockport. According to the North Cheshire Family History Society she was buried 27.03.1838 at Cheadle Edgeley with a Methodist dedication. If she was buried in a family plot, it would be a clue to her maiden surname. Thank you all, David Watts Massachusetts USA

Does anyone know of burial records before 1866 and how they may be accessed? Thanks Geoff Roosen Melbourne, Australia Still looking for KINDER family members.

    3. Hi Geoff, before 1866 the population would have been buried at several C of E Churches depending on where they lived, you have to remember that Dukinfield Cemetery sits very near to the Lancashire/Cheshire border. Ashton under Lyne residents would be buried in St. Michaels (the new graveyard), St.Peters, Christ Church and St. John's. Residents on the Cheshire side would be buried at St. Michaels (Ashton under Lyne), St. Paul's Stalybridge and Mottram in Longdendale parish church and possibly other's I don't know about. Some of the records of the Ashton under Lyne Churches can be found on the Lancashire Online Parish Clerk website, the Cheshire ones on FindMyPast though not all will be as late as 1866. Copies of all the church records in the area are kept at the Tameside Archive Centre, Ashton under Lyne. Vanessa    All records are subject to error. Let they without typo caste tea thirst scone! 3. Hi Lynda I'm not a Catholic so this might not be the way, but have you thought of contacting the catholic diocesan office nearest to where the convent was? There must be some record of when Margaret entered the convent, and passed through the various stages. The correct diocese appears to be Middlesbrough; their website is here http://middlesbrough-diocese.org.uk/, and if you scroll right to the very bottom there is a faint link for "Contact Middlesbrough Diocese". Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Does anyone know of burial records before 1866 and how they may be accessed? <<snipped>> As always, start with the GENUKI entry for the place. See http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/dukinfield.html Looks to me like St. John the Evangelist is the likeliest option from several - depending on date. See http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/churches/dukinfield-st%20john.html For an index to burials, see FamilySearch. https://familysearch.org/search Images of the parish registers are on FindMyPast. 3. I'm researching my late husband's family for my sons and trying to learn more about a very loved family member.. His late aunt, birth name Margaret Kelly, was born in Galway. I think in or soon after 1911 -her parents and siblings are on the Irish 1910 census but she isn't. We attended her funeral, around 1977-1979. KNOWN FACTS: Entered a Convent of Mercy near Redcar, took the name of Sister Mary Rosario. Her aunt was in the same convent and at one time was its Reverend Mother, known as Scholastica. Scholastica's birth name would be either Kelly or Keane. Margaret (known to the family as Peggy) or Sister M Rosario, was a primary school head, Samaritan, recipient of a Bene Merenti medal from the then pope (1970s?) Though the convent building is still there, it's now a children's hospice, so I can't ask anyone there.. She was friendly with (related to) a Walsh family in Chorley, Lancashire, which included the footballer Mickey Walsh. Her closest friend in the convent was Sr. Mary Stanislaus. As I'm not a Catholic I don't know where to start and google hasn't helped. Any ideas. please?
