    3. You could go to the GenWeb page for Winston Co, MS and it should list the County offices. Write the County Clerks office and they should be able to do a search for you (if you are not able to go yourself) for about $10 plus perhaps $1 per page they copy. You might also check the the webpage for any records they might have online. I've already checked the BLM General Land Office records for both Tennessee and Mississippi and there are no records for Joseph H Cherry or David Cherry, which means they were not original land holder or were tenant farmers or leased the property they lived on, I think. Something else you might consider. Census indexes only list Head of Household or adult boarders, laborers. If Joseph and Matilda moved to Tennessee or another part of Mississippi after they were married they might have been living with relatives and therefore would not be listed as Head of Household, even though they were counted. They might possibly have been in another state entirely, so you might want to do searches on adjacent states. Or it is possible they might have missed being enumerated.
