Hello My Cherry family is from Bibb County, Ga circa 1840-1950's. The name Joel Cherry was prevalent in this family. My William Cherry born 1804 was born in North Carolina and settled in the Bibb & Houston County areas c1840. I believe his family was in Wilkinson Co, Ga prior to this time. His brothers were Riley and Spencer. We don't know if they were connected to other Cherry families in Bibb and Houston County, including Rev Frederick Cherry, and Joel and Abner Cherry of Bibb County. Sally Cherry married a Rev Sam Hill. I would be interested in any connections to these Cherry families. Dear Pauline: Reveived you recent message about the death of Mary Ellen Cherry Rowe in Aulander NC. I was pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie in 1994-96....The Cherry family name is that area is well established.....There have been several lawyers with the name Cherry in that area. Also you will find many slave decendent family's with the name of Cherry......looking in an old phone book I counted roughly 60 or 70 families with the name of Cherry. Also, if you didn't know there was a Governer Cherry for the state of North Carolina back in the l940's or l950's. I did not find any family connection in the the Ahoskie area that could be traced down my family line...the county seat for Hertford County is Winton, NC. Reg. of Deeds office 252-358-7850 Maybe this will be of some help for someone. Rev. Joel D. Hannah owned hotels in Adelaide. This daughter may have gone to South Africa on a trip with Hannah in about 1929/1930. There are other members of the Jacobs family also. Hannah would have been my g-grandmother and the marriage to Jacob was her second. Her first marriage was in Engand to an Alfred ? Freeman

Dear Shelly Don't know whether it is the same Cherry line that you are looking for.... Cherry family has been in the Lincoln County/Gaston County North Carolina since the late 1700-early 1800. They were Scott-Irish immagrants......mainly Presbyterians......good place to start would be Unity Presbyterian Church, Denver, NC..... There is also a town named Cherryville, in Gaston County, neighboring county to Lincoln County. County seats are Gastonia, for Gaston County, and Lincolnton, for Lincoln County. Rev. Joel D. I have a wonderful opportunity to spend a week in Salt Lake City next month and I'm not sure of the best way to spend my time, genealogy wise. I plan to spend 3-4 days in the LDS library, etc. What are my first steps once I get there, where do I go first, is there a "process" that one goes through, are there eating establishments close by, what should one take with them as far as personal records are concerned, are there written/un-written rules, do/don't do items for using the library? As you can see there are lots of questions. Can you supply some of the answers? Any advice, recommendations, answers, etc. will be most appreciated because I want to make the most of the short time that I will be there. Thanks much, Wayne Campbell --- James Campbell --- waynpegg@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
