Hi Wes, I have seen some of the names you mention in my research, but I am afraid I can't find a connection to my Cherrys as yet. There seem to be so many William Cherrys around. I know I have had difficultly working out which ones are linked, although I have our William's marriage certificate in hand and it clearly gives his parents as Thomas and Sarah. I've had a quick look through all my notes from various registers and have come across the following from the Free BDM list: Marriages Mar 1877, Cherry Alfred, Luton, 3b 576 Marriages Jun 1886, Cherry Sidney, Luton, 3b 714. From my GRO notes I have found a reference to a death (I think) for Alfred Cherry, Dec 1856, Luton, 3b, 265. It was in with all my other notes for deaths, I was looking for a death date for Sophia Cherry, William's wife. No doubt you will have all of these. Sorry, I can't be of more help. Hi Listers, Since my initial posting, I have been doing a little more research and need to amend details re Thomas Cherry, b 1826 in Flamstead Parish. Recent information received has revealed that Thomas' wife is not Maria, but Anna (don't know her surname) who was born in Dunstable in Bedford. Thomas and Anna appear on the 1851 Census for Luton. They had a Mary Anne, who was born in Luton abt. 1852 and Jane who was born abt. 1854 also in Luton. This information has come from Census information, whereas the previous information was an educated guess based on IGI records. Hi Listers, My name is Larysa Cheary and I am new to this particular list. My interests are in tracking the Cherry surname in England, the counties of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire in particular for the 18th and 19th centuries. My husband's gt-grandfather, was Levi William Cheary, born Cherry to William and Sophia Cherry in Luton in 1847. I am fairly certain that I have established William Cherry's family and am seeking any further information on William's parents and siblings. Also, I have come up with a family that I believe may be the descendants of William, that is his grandparents. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as I am really struggling with putting the pieces of this family puzzle together. I am currently working my way through parish records for Saint Mary, Luton where most of the family members for several generations were baptised and married. With so many common given names, it is hard to place individuals, especially since early parish records give very little information. Information I have to date is as follows: William Cherry, b 1821 in Pepperstock, Herts to Thomas Cherry and Sarah Cheshire (m.1809 ). William married Sophia Watson. Other children to Thomas and Sarah were: David, b 1810 (parish record does not give place of residence of family) Benjamin, b 1812 (as above, m Ann Bunnage, chn. Charles, Selinah Emma & Arthur) Ann, b 1815 in Pepperstock Hannah, b 1819 in Pepperstock Ruth, b 1821 in Flamstead Parish Thomas, b 1826 in Flamstead Parish (m Maria ? chn. Mary Ann and twins Jane and Sarah Ann, it appears only Jane surviving. Mary Ann m Alfred Farr and Jane m Edwin Eyers) When widowed, Thomas m Harriet Bunnage, chn. Walter Thomas, m Catherine Barker.) My guess, based on dates, parish records etc. is that William's father Thomas, b 1785, was a child of James Charry (Cherry) and Elizabeth Mead who married May 1775. Again baptisms and marriage were in Saint Mary, Luton. Other children to James and Elizabeth were: William, bap 1776 James, bap 1778 Thomas, bap 1781 and died Aug 1781 John, bap 1782 Thomas, bap 1785 Benjamin, bap 1787. I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather, John Willis Cherry. He would have been born about 1878 or a little later. I do not know his father's name, but he had brothers named Walter and Frank. They were from Monroe County, Kentucky. His mother's name was Mary Ann, and she was married to a Mr. Frazier at some point. Walter lived in Holdenville, Oklahoma. His wife's name was Margaret, and they had several children. Also do you know which part of Oxfordshire he came from. Betty: Henry Farris Cherry was in the Civil War. He was in the Tenth Dismounted Cavalry. Henry died 27 Nov 1905 in Biloxi, Jackson Co., MS at the Beauvoir Confederate Home. More information about my Cherry family: William b. 1804 North Carolina and Edna Perrin Heard b 1824. They married in Bibb County,Ga on 25 Oct 1842. Their family Bible gives their children's names as: Andrew D 09 October 1843 Wiley Franklin 21 October 1846 James Raleigh 22 April 1848 Cornelia Angeline 17 March 1850 Jacob Lonza 22 February 1852 Emma Edna 10 March 1854 William Thomas 10 April, 1858 Robert Hanes 17 April, 1858 Spencer and Riley Cherry seem to be William's brothers. William purchased his land from Spencer and Riley came and lived on William's land by 1850. Are they related to the Bibb County Cherry's? We haven't found a link to prove that, but they lived close to each other. Riley Cherry lived near William in the 1850 Houston County, Ga census. We know he married Charity Wicker from Washington Co, Ga 29 Oct 1839. Who did Silvie marry? There is also another William Cherry on the 1850 Census in Wilkinson County, GA, with Parnelia Female 27, with 4 young Cherry girls: Mary 12 yrs, Frances 9 yrs, Sarah A 5 years, and Nancy 2 yrs and also a 16 year old Martha Frazier. I don't know how this family connects to our William. Hi I am descended from William and have information on his descendants. This is very exciting. William moved to Houston County and married Edna Perrin Heard in Bibb County in 1842. William died in Houston County, Ga in 1863. He lived on land purchased from Spencer Riley and we felt Spencer may have been related as well. Riley married Charity Wicker and also lived in Houston County for awhile and then we lose track of them. William may have been married before Edna as he was much older than she was.
