    1. [CHERRY-L] Fw: Searching Doolin Families
    2. Paul Mckinlay
    3. Hi Folks Sent this many months ago with little sucsess, but now have a bit more to add so maybe I'll get lucky this time: The O'Connors we are searching are the Parents of Michael O'Connor & Alice Scales. Emigrated to Australia in 1857 with their son Michael. Father was Donald or Daniel O'Connor, born probably in "Doolin" Co Clare, mother was Bridget Cherry born Ballinasloe Co. Galway. Alice's parents were William Scales & Alice McCoy all of Co Clare, death cert. show Doolin or Killilagh, Killilagh being the Catholic parish of the Doolin area I think? Ennistimon was also mentioned as a possible place of residence on an obituary notice, also in the Killilagh parish. Michael had listed as a migration sponsor his brother Tom (Thomas O'Connor) living in Australia since 1850, little is known of him. we believe Daniel (Donald) & Bridget Cherry were thought to have had 11 children 9 deceased at time of Michaels migration we now know of two children living in1857 that of Patrick O'Connor and his wife Margaret and their daughter Bridget born 1840. Also Mary O'Connor marrried to Thomas Sharry their children being Bridget & Michael,Michael born 1837 Hopefully someone can shed some light on these people from this area. Paul & Pam >From Sydney the Olympic Town,10 days to go and counting. Searching O'Connor. Scales. McCoy. Lowry, Lourie, Lowery. Cherry. Kearse,Kierse. Sharrry.

    3. Get his birth certificate. That will name both of his parents, and probably their ages and places of birth. Check out the CA birth records at http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/birth/search.cgi . It doesn't list the parents names, though, only the mother's maiden name. And the CA death records at http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi . 3. Ann, Just remembered something else. You said you didn't know when he entered the country - where and when. Have you had access to the books, tan in color, with black lettering, on the immigration of people from other countries. PASSENGER AND IMMIGRATION LISTS INDEX by P. William Filby with Mary K. Meyer. They are about 14 x 18 in size. There are many volumes. They are found in most genealogy sections in libraries and in all the state Archives. If you find something which you think MIGHT be the one you're looking for, you can then write the National Archives in Washington and they will send you the ship's passenger list which gives you the date they entered the country and the ship upon which they traveled and from what port of embarkation to and from. Price $10.00 the last time I got one. You'll need form from NARA -ship passenger arrival records. There is a number but I can't find it on mine. They are available on line from the NARA web site. National Archives and Records Administration 7th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW W,DC 20408. Good luck! I've included the entire list, since others may not know of this source and research tool from the NARA. Mary J. Marchant

    1. [CHERRY-L] Re: CHERRY, MARGARET JANE HALL - IRELAND
    2. Jan Perez
    3. I'm looking for any information on Margaret Jane Hall Cherry who came from County Armagh, Ireland. She was born Nov. 1855 and came to the US in 1874. She lived in Phila. and New Jersey. She had a cousin Louisa who married a John Wilson. She may have been married to a James Cherry. There is some confusion about whether there was a marriage and whether Hall or Cherry was her maiden name. Her cousin Louisa's mother was a Hall so our Margaret could have been a cousin from the Cherry or Hall side.
