If you will check the archives for this list you will see a post from me concerning the wife of Wm David. It has been successfully documented that Nancy Bolin was the mother of Alexander McDaniel who most 'assume' is a son of Wm David....but it is not proven....therefore a brother to John. If your Charles Alford appears on a federal census then he may not appear on early Cherokee Census rolls. The Dawes, Miller, ECA applications are not, IMO a census roll. They are lists of those who applied for payments for various reasons. Your John McDaniel was born about 1763, Granny Hopper around 1740. You can find a John and Mary McDaniel in the Georgia land records; he participated in the land lotteries in 1803 and 1807. If this is the same John who was son of William/David McDaniel and Granny Hopper it looks like he did not consider himself a Cherokee and he died before the first census roll was created in 1817, so he wouldn't have been on any lists.
