Terri, I think your dates are a little off. Your John McDaniel was born about 1763, Granny Hopper around 1740. You can find a John and Mary McDaniel in the Georgia land records; he participated in the land lotteries in 1803 and 1807. If this is the same John who was son of William/David McDaniel and Granny Hopper it looks like he did not consider himself a Cherokee and he died before the first census roll was created in 1817, so he wouldn't have been on any lists.
