I am descended from Nancy Ward down through great grand-daughter Susannah Fox Taylor who married a white man, Samuel Parks. Parks family lived in eastern Tennessee, drove wagons west over the Trail of Tears, then emigrated to Indian Territory in the years after the Trail. Also descended from trader Ludovic Grant and his [unknown name] Cherokee wife, grand-daughter Susannah Emory, mother of Judge John Martin, Nannie Martin, and Rachel Martin. Nannie Martin married a white man, Jeter Lynch, their daughter Martha (Patsy) married James Allen Thompson, also white. Four Thompson siblings married Cherokee and emigrated to Indian Territory at the time of the Trail of Tears. Some went on their own, some went with the groups. Kathie--you likely have this info about Ludovic Grant, but here is what I have. He has thousands of descendants, especially in Okla. Ludovic Grant first came to Charles Town, abt 1716, then some time afterwards moved to the village of Great Tellico (TN). He later took EUGUIOOTE, a full blood Cherokee woman of the Long Hair Clan to be his wife. Euguioote was also known as Elizabeth Coody or Elizabeth Tassel and may have been the sister of Old Tassel, a Cherokee Warrior. She was born in 1707 and her parents "may have been" Kayanteehoe and Corn Tassel. Undocumented----in 1726 they had a daughter named Mary Grant. Ludovic and Eugioote, likely married at a typical wedding during the Green Corn Festival. Susannah Emory was the daughter of William Emory and Mary Grant, their daughter. Ludovic Grant was likely born in 1696 and son of William and Katherine Grant, brothers William & James Grant and sister Anna Grant, born Aberdeen, Scotland. There is a Grant festival in Scotland every third year, even today. Ludovice Grant was a trader and did "things" for Gov. Glen of SC. William Emory was an English trader and married Mary Grant, daughter of Ludovic Grant and Euguioote. Susannah Emory was born about 1744. She also had a sister Mary Emory, married a Buffington. Susannah Emory married John Martin Sr, brother of Gen Joseph Martin. John Martin Jr. married sisters, Nellie and Lucy McDaniel's. Judge John Martin Jr. family reunion this coming June 7-8-9 in Tahlequah, OK. Monument dedication on June 8th 2PM. Many Cherokee agencies will be involved in this ceremony.
