Earleene, I agree because I've had Ancestry do the same to me. I wrote an inquiry on GenWeb that contained a few errors and now Ancestry try to sell that misinformation back to me. However, Ancestry also contains millions of census & vital records and many of my family have trees there where they share information and misinformation. Usually, misinformation contains some clues about where or when to search in hopes of finding some vital record that adds to the picture of the puzzle. Findagrave seems to contain more accuracy because each person only has ONE memorial and you find it where the person was buried and most people were only buried once and every descendant or researcher adds to the person's known or believed information. Many of my ancestors are now correctly identified because distant cousins adding to the information found in grandma's bible and my baby book. Volunteers even go out and take photos of stones in the cemeteries (some on private property) and dig up stones that have been buried over a century ago or used to build a stone fence. At least 2 private cemeteries have been bought and landscaped when they were just overgrown jungles when I last visited. Volunteers do library lookups and with over 100,000,000 (thats over a hundred MILLION) memorials online that can be searched by name, family name, birth or death year or before or after certain dates or search by place of burial. I recently found an ancestor that was only identified by a few letters on his weathered stone: J---p --il-- (Joseph Smiley) (identified by his siblings and his parents buried in the same cemetery and partial dates on his stone) I hope this info will be helpful to everyone. Please clearify Gen Web. Is not a part of Ancestry. No one in Gen web gives info to Ancestry.
