    1. [CherokeeGene] Texas Thompson Cherokees

    3. Two of my Thompson relatives (siblings of my gg grandfather, James Allen Thompson) moved to the Texas Cherokee area after moving to IT during the Removal. Benjamin Franklin Thompson went to Texas and stayed there permanently. His family became very prominent in the lumber business. His sister Rachel Thompson Adair also went to Texas but returned to IT after several years. Some of the original Texas Cherokees were also Thompsons but it's never been clear to me if or how they were related. Some web sites say that the original Texas Cherokee/Choctaw Thompsons were descendants of a brother or cousin of my ancestor, William Allen Thompson (who was not married to a Cherokee and who died in Georgia before removal), but I've never seen a family tree or documents that actually make this connection. Thompson is a pretty common name! James Allen Thompson took several of his children and their families to the Red River area of Texas for safety during the Civil War (a lot of Cher! okee families, including Stand Watie's family spent the war years in that area). The others interested me too and I found bits on them but it was along time ago. I always shared so it would be in the archives. This group is part of the Texas Cherokee if I remember right and there use to be a terrific website with info. on them. Try googling that and see if you find it. ----- Original Message ---- From: "Forbes, Kathie" <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Wed, December 5, 2012 5:11:25 AM Subject: [CherokeeGene] David Thompson/Nancy Rider I have Clarissa Rider and a David Thompson in my tree. Clarissa was first married to Robert Calhoun Parks, her 3rd cousin, brother of my great-grandfather, and then to David George Thompson, born in Georgia in 1840, died in IT in 1902. I don't know much about either of them since Clarissa is not my ancestor. I have lots of Thompson ancestors, but I don't think that this David Thompson is related to me either - not aware of any Davids or Georges in my family. I do try to follow up on Thompsons from Georgia with Cherokee connections because I only have information on 4 Thompson siblings from my family who married Cherokees (James Allen, Benjamin Franklin, Johnson, and Rachel) and went west to IT . I would love to find out more about the others, William Allen Jr., Ann Abigail, Elizabeth, Henry Clay, and Isabella (all born between 1790 and 1810 in South Carolina and moved to Georgia after 1810 ). I haven't found anything on my Thompson's to know where they moved to outside of Okla. :( ----- Original Message ----- From: "Forbes, Kathie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 06, 2012 6:10 AM Subject: [CherokeeGene] Texas Thompson Cherokees > Two of my Thompson relatives (siblings of my gg grandfather, James Allen > Thompson) moved to the Texas Cherokee area after moving to IT during the > Removal.
