    3. Joyce, Thank you. I have spent many an hour reading your posts around the Internet. I have no document to offer you - I am having problems finding documents 100 years old to support family lore, much less further back. Kathie, And thank you as well. Yes my dates were off. Somedays they all blend together... So on the topic of John McDaniel - it appears he did die earlier than 1817 - most say in 1811 and 1812 War related - yet I can find no evidence of this. I have searched War of 1812's documents until my eyes cross - no widows claim - no death. Yet there is a John McDaniel pension ap from GA. Where should I be looking? Kathie said he did not consider himself Cherokee, is this because of the land lotteries? What does this mean? I have seen that his Cherokee was not acknowledged until 2 generations later - but cant find what this refers to? Family lore says his wife Mary was Cherokee as well but cannot find any name other than Mary unk. Does anyone have this line? Your John McDaniel was born about 1763, Granny Hopper around 1740. You can find a John and Mary McDaniel in the Georgia land records; he participated in the land lotteries in 1803 and 1807. If this is the same John who was son of William/David McDaniel and Granny Hopper it looks like he did not consider himself a Cherokee and he died before the first census roll was created in 1817, so he wouldn't have been on any lists. > > Kathie Forbes > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] > Sent: Monday, November 19, 2012 3:01 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: CHEROKEEGENE Digest, Vol 7, Issue 215 > > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. I cannot locate any on Cherokee rolls/census but they should be there. Charles Alford McDaniel (1857) married Mollie Oldham, he is son of John Wesley McDaniel (b 1825) married to Jane McKinley, he is son of Allen McDaniel (1798) married to Sophia Williams, he is son of John McDaniel (1725) married to Mary unk, and he is son of David McDaniel and Grasshopper Suiki Moytoy (Granny Hopper).
