    3. I hate searching the Archives, so you'll have to go find that message & send it to me......I have never found what i was searching for through the archives (ask dan.....I always complain when i have to go there) LOL I don't know about Joyce saying that either......but we'll see.. as for what has this group helped me with......well, not that it matters.....but it has helped me broken down some walls i had, its lead me to different people who have helped me to find the information behind an application # that my dad had tried to research since the '70's (he was told that it was a Roll number, but it was actually an application #), which knocked down several brick walls, gave me names of not only my dbl great grandma's kids (including those that died), but her parents & her grandparents (both names through her mom & 1 name through her dad), gave me her mom's siblings & one of her dads. This group has also taught me more about history, American & Indian, about geography more then what I was ever taught in school. It also changed my way of thinking & my reasons for searching.....I have also been able to help many people find their ancestor's & their connections & were able to be enroll, out of them I was able to connect 2 people who were related to each other & are now not only cousin's (fairly closely related) but are also friends. It also challenges me not to speculate or settle for someone's "word", but to ask for specific information & details. Its also, helped me to stand up against those who have tried to claim that my family is not Cherokee & made them prove it......only to find out that their "know-it-all" attitude towards my ancestors just showed how unknowledgable they actually were, because they couldn't even get the right family. They found my dbl. great grandfather's siblings & their family, but assumed it was my direct line :) Its also helped me to know that i thoroughly enjoy doing genealogy, whether i am researching for my own family or researching for someone else's. And whether i find that my family is indeed Cherokee (had lots of people say so) or that they are not (no proof in that direction yet)....as soon as i get my 4 generations better documented....I plan on applying to become a professional genealogist & researcher so i can help others more then i do now. There's a lot of help that i have found on this group & because of this group, whether they lurk or are active......and none of those who are helpful or have been helpful to me or others.......claim to know everything. They all make mistakes & acknowledge it......but they still help. Oh....I almost forgot the who......there's too many to list. But one of the people that helped me learn that my ancestor's # was an application was Anne Adair Adams. She is a proven Cherokee, she use to be (don't know if she still is or not) a recommended researcher for the CNO, she's a professional genealogist/researcher, she volunteered at the LDS FHC in Okla. and she put up with all of my dumb uneducated, confused, repeatative questions & she never ever hinted to be better or above anyone else. She also found my 4th great grandma on a Census record, but something happened before she could give me the information & I was having my own personal issues, so I haven't checked to see if she's passed away or what. And because of my personal issues, I took a break from researching. So.......lets turn this question around for you to answer..........How have you been of help to anyone here on this group since you've been here & who here, have you been of help to? And the question probably isn't allowed, but your not moderated, otherwise it wouldn't have made it through & its a good question to ask. If a group or the people aren't of any help, then what's the point of keeping it. I, personally, can't imagine not being a part of this group :) I've made a lot of friends here Alli :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "BARBARA GORDON-LANTTO" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: "earthfeather99" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 28, 2012 7:52 AM Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Leavens in Kentucky, born 1828 > It was a part of Dan's report on what his DNA reported.
