Esther Hoyt Ward was left in the woods about 20 miles from their home with her children and then walked to Springplace with them and 4 months-old twins in her arms. They eventually made their way to Siloam Springs, AR where they were able to stay awhile and then to Fayetteville, AR where Dr. Hinman Hoyt's daughter Florence came to be with her when he was killed. Esther then made her way to West Salem, IL to find a safe home for her children and niece. She died there and the children were taken in by other Moravian families.
