She is the GreatGranddaughter of my GreatGrandmother's sister. Both were daughters of Jeremiah Goins and Sharafina Drake. The Gowens research is debated by many Goins, pertaining to the alleged "made up" story of Jeremiah and Sharafina pretending to be Choctaw. The applied for the Rolls, were accepted, and then denied in a big court ruling at the time. To keep things in cultural relevence of the time period, Mississippi Choctaws were particuarly despised, I'm not certain why except for their dark skins. There was a saying I've read quoted by Chief Chad Smith included in the book " We The People" by Serle L. Chapman. "There were people, there were dogs, and there were Mississippi Choctaws, in that order." He was talking about how these proud people have economically rebounded with success.
