I have never expected the words of thanks in a Cherokee community. It is most usually given by helping others. It is considered quite rude to do things for others expecting something in return for self gratification. To be the giver is a blessing in itself. I learned this lesson the hard way. The less you expect of others the more you are able to give of yourself. The more you give of yourself , the more you grow and profit from what you have done. Cherokee people are governed by what is best for the people as a whole and they are not quick to be critical of others. Grandma
