Hi all so I'm curious for those that have done DNA testing and are thought to be "Native American" - have you tested with Spanish/Portuguese as part of your results? I hear this could be common for those that may not test as positive for "NA" since the test only compares results to populations of other people therefore if you look at the population of the United States - a melting pot of nations and the "NA" population now dwindled from what it once was prior to countrydom of the 1700s and the time when many european settlers came from England, if you have Spanish and Portuguese in you results then that could be your "Native American" measurement if you have no other known traces of Spanish /Portugese in your heritage - after all look at the Mexicans? They were from Spain and note that California and much of the south west eg Arizona . Nevada . Texas WAs Mexico prior 1830s.... Theresa, Have you looked at all of the projects? http://nativeheritageproject.com/2014/05/26/native-american-dna-projects/ You can contact Roberta if you still have any questions. I think it is good to open all avenues of the DNA on this list this week. Next Sat, we can move it back to the DNA list and maybe some more subscribers too. People need to learn all the details, might as well have a topic and go with it.
