I've known for quite awhile that these 'subsidiaries' were databases they purchased over the years BUT also included under the main umbrella of Ancestry.com There was no reason to sub to genealogy.com if you have a ancestry sub. There was no use to sub to any of them if you had a full membership at ancestry. In all actuality what they are doing is putting everything possible under one umbrella when it comes to those type things. All the 'My Family" databases were included in the public trees on ancestry and can be accessed from there. As for the DNA portion. I'd venture to guess that the autosomal testing they are doing won't last much longer either. It just doesn't even make sense to test with them when so many millions more are testing at familytreedna.com The bigger the database the more chance one has for matching numbers. I had autosomal done at ftdna...it took awhile but was able to confirm two lineages that I had evidentiary data on previously. When one has over 1000 cousins listed to one degree or another it takes a whole lot of digging but can be done. They aren't removing anything....they're combining things under one umbrella. Maybe to solve the personal opinions people can read this web page ( then the 50 comments) on the bottom. http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/06/04/ancestry-com-focuses-on-core-offerings/ not to mention, the data we used to get free is now being ( sold) on Ancestry on top of the subscription. When you want a vitals or a census - they changed how that works too. Just check this link and see the problem is deeper to the people than a simple change. They never considered the people who use those resources. the Core? dropping the mt and Y dna? There are other places out there, just waiting to be popular - as Ancestry falls into the abyss/ Comments on this topic are genealogy related and are open the next week. If they are putting everything under one "umbrella" & then charging for it on top of ancestry subscription they are risking losing a lot of people. Not everyone can afford to pay for a variety of things just to access one site. I can't. There are smaller similar businesses out there that aren't so greedy & money hungry (yet) -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dan M Sent: Friday, June 6, 2014 8:28 AM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Changes at Ancestry.com Maybe to solve the personal opinions people can read this web page ( then the 50 comments) on the bottom. http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/06/04/ancestry-com-focuses-on-core-o fferings/ not to mention, the data we used to get free is now being ( sold) on Ancestry on top of the subscription.
