The article Joy sent the link for tells what they are doing. Rootsweb isn't going anywhere. BUT, IMO, and in my opinion only, I am going to predict that if people don't get off facebook for genealogy they mail list on rootsweb will be the next thing to go. Why does it matter? ARCHIVES! Can you do a search on your surname and find 100 hits on it in facebook? The mail lists are dying because they aren't being used. There is a facebook list called rootsweb genealogists with circa 15,000 members and a bunch of posts everyday. Consider how great it would be if this was happening on a mail list with searchable archives. Facebook is a really stupid way to do genealogy....and that's my rant for today. I do fully agree with this. All you people on face book - if you only knew about the other reasons face book was created - you might do some real research and learn ( why face book is FREE)) Lots of * traps * out there. Do some research, you might get a shock. As for my other group - ( if) was lost rootsweb was the suggestion) If that happened - we would not have those hits posted by Joyce. I do suggest - to get ahead - advance your genealogy research now to full scale and get it as done as possible fast. Why would anyone think that FB is a good place to post Genealogy info? That is one of the dumbest things I've heard of. That's actually the last place that I would have thought would go there. I don't know why it surprises me, but it actually does The mailing list's aren't busy just because of genealogy being supposedly posted on FB, its because people run into brick walls, get attacked/slammed, etc. for researching their lines & "taboo" subjects.
