I've had a Mtdna testing which I later found was only 7 markers, anyway, I felt that this was a total lack of money. I am interested in having another testing and would like opinions of who is the most reliable. I subscribe to ancestry and liked what they told me but a man who lives not far from them said they were not the best. Since he does testing I've wondered if this was incorrect. Any advice Adiene
You should start by reading the basics: http://dna-explained.com/2012/10/01/4-kinds-of-dna-for-genetic-genealogy/ 4 Kinds of DNA for Genetic Genealogy And also look at the comparison charts on the ISOGG wiki: http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Autosomal_DNA_testing_comparison_chart Joy From: Humble, Adiene Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2014 3:38 PM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] 20th century citizens I've had a Mtdna testing which I later found was only 7 markers, anyway, I felt that this was a total lack of money. good advice. Best to learn the real facts over hearsay of those who are not sure how to answer. I am trying to help a friend locate his ancestors who are Everett and Settie Stokes who were Cherokee and apparently living in some place in OK during the period of the Dawes Rolls. He thought cousins had their CNO cards based on their descent from Everett and Settie, but I do not see these names in Vol II of Cherokee Roots. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Fawn
http://www.yourgeneticgenealogist.com/ Ancestry.com announced today that they are officially retiring five of their sites and/or products as of September 5, 2014. These include Mundia, Genealogy.com, MyCanvas, MyFamily and, of special interest to my readers, the Y-DNA and mtDNA tests (now being called LegacyDNA). The sales of these tests have been halted, effective immediately. http://dna-explained.com/2014/06/05/ancestry-com-discontinues-y-and-mtdna-tests-and-closes-data-base/ Ancestry.com Discontinues Y and mtDNA Tests Joy
