The team of 20 riders and crew, representing the Cherokee Nation and the Eastern Band of Cherokee, will complete a 950-mile ride and pass through seven states to honor and remember their ancestors who walked the Trail of Tears in 1838. The annual trip began more than 30 years ago as a leadership program for Cherokee students to experience the journey of their ancestors. This year’s journey began on June 7 in Echota, Ga., and will conclude with a ceremony on June 25 in Tahlequah, Okla.
