Hi, Janet! Who was your ancestor? Full-blood was not necessarily an indication of "pure blood" descent. It was as often a state of mind. A friend's ancestor was 1/4 but considered a full-blood because she lived and grew up among the full-blood community. Makes for fun, yes? Blessings, Susan
I know that the Cherokee Constitution forbade individual ownership or sale of land, but when was the Constitution written? What would have been the legal status of a "fullblood Cherokee" owning land, being listed on tithable rolls, tax rolls, etc. in the 1700's? The ancestor in question did all these things, yet many insist he was a fullblood Cherokee. I need something to refer to. Thanks! Janet Crain
Hi, Jackie. Ailsey seems to be a variation of Elsie in English altogether. I have seen that and a half dozen others in both the US and English census. I haven't seen Aisley before, but I suspect it's just another variant, not necessarily Cherokee. Have a beautiful day! HI, I have an Ailsey, Alsey in my family, some write her name as "Alice" so I am not sure what it was. She was not Cherokee or N/A as far as I know. Something I was told a long time ago, and I have no proof of is that many Melungeon and Native people used spanish sounding names, so the female versions end in "A" such as Cilla, Celia, Sela, Lovada, Vada, Elvira, and for men names like Manuel, Domingo, Salvador are a few. I really don't think it's set in stone, and people used alot of names for people they knew and were (1) fond of (2) admired (3) famous or (4) biblical, just as they do today. But if you see a pattern of names being used in a family, which are odd, names that continue among many members of the family, then I would consider if there is something about the origins of those names. Nothing can be proven by the names themselves however. hope that helps. Just wanted everyone to know, I am not the same Jackie as the one who needs to be thanked, before I ask this question. Was Aisley a Cherokee name or was it just a Cherokee spelling/pronunciation of Elsie? If anyone knows I will be grateful for the answer and if you don't know I am grateful that you took the time to read this and think about it. Isn't there a Scripture about those who want their reward in this life and those who are willing to wait until the next for theirs? Thankfully just jackie
OK, good news: your mailing list is ready to roll. Briefly (very), people can subscribe to your list in mail mode by sending a message to CHEROKEE-DNA-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to CHEROKEE-DNA-D-request@rootsweb.com ======================================== All DNA focus will be done on the new list. Any one can respectfully join and direct new people to the new list. thanks list owner - creator => Me - Dan M
Actually it was about 10 days ago that I sent the email re the native anerican website. Before you fell. I did notice that no one else offered to help you. I can't imagine why. One thank you would have been sufficient. I don't want to overdose. Jackie

Plant lady you were probably speaking to me as I had a question in and didn't get a chance to respond. I always thank in advance in case something happens which it did. I fell and got a concussion which gave me about three hours that I don't have any memory of. I spent a couple of nights in the hospital and yesterday I decided it was time to check my messages. . If you are that thin skinned and feel like you need a response of thanx from me so quickly I'm really sorry, so thank you thank you thank you. And I don't need this aggrevation so I am unsubcribing. Hope you get more deserving thanx and all of the cudo's that you need to keep you happy. Sharon
How do I Unsubscribe from the group?
Sharon, I sent you info last week and never even rec'd a thanx, which might have been in order. Whether the info was of help or not, you should have said thanx because someone took the time and trouble to try to help. I would rather help someone who really appreciates it. Jackie

I have misplaced my roll books or someone has borrowed them and I really need some help. My grandfather and his father were on most of the rolls in Ga and on the Dawes Roll in Ok. I need the Cdib numbers for them. Can someone help? My grandfathers name was John Downing Palmour b. in Dawsonville Ga to Benjamin Palmour and Amanda Mathews.. I would certainly appreciate it. Sharon
Hello, I must get more information from my dad. He knows more about the Hoopers and Stricklands than I do. Sorry, I must get back with you on that. Julie
Julie Were your Hoopers from the region around Polk, Monroe, TN and Cherokee NC? And when. In our Shelton research we have James A married to Sarah Hooper and she is suspected to be from the southeast Polk area but some of the Hooper's were in the mountainous area of Monroe County and lived on what is now called Hoopers Bald in Cherokee National Forest. Prob. the same bunch of Hoopers but we thought by defining more about Sarah it might help us learn more about James.
