Ila, It has been awhile since I researched the HARRIS-JONES lines. Here is some info I had for another reseacher, dated 1993. When she gave me this I thought it tied into my lines. Richard HARRIS (I was told Richard was the father of Joseph HARRIS who md. Martha JONES) and therefore the info. below looked as if it might fit: Richard HARRIS born England had Thomas HARRIS md. Martha GARRETT (NOTE: I have a GARRETT line as well) Josephus HARRIS Richard HARRIS Jr. the above Thomas HARRIS had Eliz. HARRIS Jemima Ann HARRIS b 1782 Union Co. SC d 1863 Pike GA md. 1809 MOrgan, GA Levi MARTIN unk. HARRIS Father of Levi MARTIN was Elijah MARTIN md. Mary FUNDERBURK he also had Israel, Shadrach and Elijah and 8 daughters (I do not have the names) you will find records of these people in Union and Laurens Co. SC and Edgefield Co. SC another great source that I recommend over and over again for early MD/VA families is "Maryland and Viriginia Colonials: Genealogies of Some Colonial Families" by Sharon J. Doliante. Families include BACON, BEALL, BEASLEY, CHENEY, DUCKETT, DUNBAR, ELLYSON, ELMORE, GRAVESA, HEYDON (Haydon), HOWARD, JACOB, MORRIS, NUTHALL, ODELL, PEERCE, REEDER, RIDGLEY, PRATHER, SPRIGG, WESSON, WILLIAMS, and Collateral Kin Laurens Co. Library has a copy and will copy index for surnames and the pages if you request and agree to the charges. address is 1017 W Main St., Laurens SC 29360 I am not done going through my papers. I am sure the MARTINs are collateral lines in more ways than this. This is just the one I recall from the top of my head. An aside: I have a 2nd JONES line which is Margaret JONES b 17 Apr 1629 d 1713 md. Joseph WHITMORE. Their son John WHITMORE b 1720 md. Ailcy GARRETT Their dau. Lydia b 1772 md. Chana BRIGGS the son of Jessee BRIGGS and Nancy HARRIS whose mother was Martha JONES and her paternal grandma was reputed to be Jemima JONES. How all these JONES come together is not clear, but I am sure they will prove to be cousins, neices, or something that ties them together. I have Isaac Martin married to Nancy...I have just found some information on one of Ancestry's pages that Nancy's name was Nancy Ellison. They are my ggggGrandparents. Their daughter Martha that married Whitson Collins/Collinsworth is my gggGrandparents. I just found proof that my ggggGrandfather Zachariah Collins did change the name to Collinsworth. I found their marriage record in Johnston Cty, NC The wife's name is Welthy Beaman..and then you find him on other records as Collinsworth married to Wealthy Beaman.. My Martins are supposed to be from the same areas of TN or NC.. Dear Fawn, So happy to get your response! My ancestor, William J. LOVE (b.NC 1798), who I assume was Cherokee*, had a daughter Jane who married a YOUNG. These children were all b.TN: Jane b.1822 James b.1823 Mary b.1828 William Thomas (my ancestor) b.1829 possibly even more In the 1850 Census, MO, Montgomery, Dist.61: M432_407 181a image27: William J. and Loviry LOVE also have Euphema (b.1841) and William (b.1846) who might have been grandchildren. The Census didn't ask for relationships. What would help me the most is if you know more about the grandparents of Reese Young. I have traced that family through many decades but don't know if this is the family into which my g-g-g-aunt married. Let me know when you are home and able to look it up. Your help is immensely appreciated! Nancy *In the 1930 Census, the son of Jane Love YOUNG's sister Mary Love WATKINS stated that his mother was full-blood Cherokee. The family was then living in OK. My branch lived in MO and then KS across the street from OK.
Jim: It's nice to meet another cousin. My Grandmother was Ona Marie Young, born in 1902 in MO, whose father was Damon Walter Young, who was born in MO to Reece and Nancy Young. I do not have my Young family records with me, but it is my recollection that they were in Maury Co., TN prior to their move to MO. I recall that our earliest known Young ancestor was John Young, who allegedly came from Ireland, lived in Pennsylvania, moved to Kentucky and then to TN. His first wife died, leaving him with two children. John then re-married in about 1800 to a Cherokee woman, from whom we descend. I have not been able to devote any time to tracking this alleged Cherokee line. I can tell you there are a lot of proven Cherokee connections, including my Grandmother's marriage into the Pettitt family, which is a proven Cherokee line. Fawn Kennedy Dessy
Hi everyone, I'm new to this but my Cherokee roots have led me to suspect that the wife of the above-referenced William YOUNG was my ancestor's sister. I am trying to determine her MAIDEN NAME (hopefully it was Jane LOVE) This family had moved from TN to Webster County, MO by the Census of 1860 father: Williiam (b. abt. 1823 TN) mother: Jane (b. June, 1822 TN) father b. NC, mother b.GA (or NC) daughter: Mary YOUNG (b. abt 1843 TN) son: James YOUNG (b. abt 1847 TN) m. Rebecca E. (b. abt 1837 TN) son: Reese YOUNG (b. abt 1849 TN) daughter: Sarah A. YOUNG (b. abt. 1850 TN) daughter: Martha A. YOUNG (b. abt. 1850 TN) son: John H. YOUNG (b. Sept 1853 TN) wife Mary m. abt. 1872 son: Leroy YOUNG b. abt. 1863 MO) My ancestor, William J. LOVE (b. abt 1798 NC) would be the father of Jane YOUNG -- if we have the right woman. Her mother would possibly have been named "Loviry" If this matches anything in your Cherokee trees, please contact me. Thanks, Nancy Malone
Thank you all for replying to my post! I am greatful for the guidence and any information! I've been doing this a while but I still learn something new everyday! This is what I have found so far: 1900 Census Telico, St Francis, Arkansas 1910 Census Taloga Twp, Dewey, Oklahoma 1920 Census Precinct 4, Anderson, Texas 1930 Census Precinct 4, Anderson, Texas I am aware that my grandmothers memory may not be correct....LOL! But that is the joy of searching to find the answers if there are any! Thank you again for your time and guidence! Sandy
O'si yo Everyone I have a paper in front of me that I printed out in 2003 it was sent by Fire3821@aol.com This is part of the content: This by the Trail of Tears Association, I am told it has over 38 columns of information on 18,335 Cherokee living in Cherokee Nation East. The Introduction is as follows: "This roll is often erroneously referred to as the Henderson Roll after the Tennessee Census Taker" The 1835 Cherokee Census is available from the Oklahoma Chapter - The Trail of Tears Association for about $28.00. P.O. Box 96 Park Hill, OK 74451 (NOTE: I am looking for the book number and a good address where I can order a copy. I have not had any luck so far on making contact with anyone on this. Maybe someone in Oklahoma can have better, the book I have been told is about the size of the Guion Miller Roll "Plus" they say when you open the book, that the information covers both pages for each entery. Wado until we talk again, Dohiyi RedThunder
Sandy, I can tell you that you're not looking for a reservation for the Cherokee. There are no reservations in Oklahoma, the Cherokee Nation owns that land and has always done that since having to move there in the 1830's. You are looking for Indian Territory area. Oklahoma became a state in 1907, so I would check the 1900 census which was still territory and the 1910 census that was the State of Ok. You can probably look in the area of NE Ok as that was Indian Territory. Maybe checking www.cherokee.org might give you some information. Hope some of this helps, Jana ----- Original Message ----- From: <Litwhwolf@aol.com> To: <CherokeeGene-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2005 8:29 AM Subject: [CherokeeGeneCommunity] Re: CherokeeGene-D Digest V05 #263 >I have a question, guidence really.
