Does anyone know of a Cherokee connection to any of the Colwells (Caldwells) in Cataloochee? Thanks for any help. _____________________________ Jim Waddell
Does anyone know what all information is on the Guion Miller applications and where you can send off to get copies ? Also, are there some of the same people on the Guion Miller Roll as on the Dawes Roll and if so, why, if the Guion Miller Roll was for eastern and the Dawes was for western ? Thanks for any help, Michael
Dear Fawn, I don't see the connection yet but I'll keep working on it. 20 years so far. This eliminates one possibility. Thanks so much, Nancy

Nancy: The additional Young information I have is from The Webster County Historical Sociatey, {Missouri}, June, 1978, Special Publication Number One, entitled A YOUNG ENTERPRISE IN AN OLD SETTING. This publication restates the compilation of James Ellis Young, a student at the University of Alabama, and indicates that three oung brothers, William Carroll Young, Thomas K. Young and Peter (Barney) Young were living in Maury County, TN before moving to Missouri in 1853; that Peter married Elizabeth Ray (Rhea) in 1839; that William married Elizabeth's sister, Jane Ray in 1842; that the marriages apparently took place in Maury County; and that Elizabeth and Jane were the daughters of Alexander and Zelphia Rhea (Ray). William C and Jane Ray Young are the parents of a Reece Young whose date of birth does not match your Reece's date of birth. This Reece married Nancy Oney Haymes on June 18, 1871. There may well be another Reece in the family, but my information is limited. Would like to know if you fit into this family in some way, as I would love to know more about the Youngs and collateral families, since my maternal grandmother was a Young. Fawn Kennedy Dessy

O'siyo Bob Butler, My husband is researching James Columbus Butler, an orphan, rumored to have Cherokee lineage, but he has hit a brick wall. Many of his Butlers were from Arkansas and do not appear on Dawes. Many of them are on the census' but are listed as white although photo's of them look definately Native American. Can you post all your Butler names? Thanks. J. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

I know nothing about the Butler line that Martin Butler Strudivant has in his name. I suspect that he was just named after someone. I have not found any Butlers family in my line. His mother was Arah Beck Strudivant. She was a sister to my second great grand mother Mary Beck Hildebrand. They came from GA and TN. I was hoping that someone whould know something about where Martin got his name. But will probably never know. Dear Fawn, My information is that Jane/June LOVE (b.1822 TN) married a YOUNG. Reese P. YOUNG, son of William and Jane Young was born in August, 1850. Therefore, I am looking to find the maiden name of the mother of Reese P. YOUNG. The census of 1860, MO, Webster County, Washington Twp. shows them all. Regards, Nancy
I apologize that I was not paying attention to the Martin discussion, but as I was looking at some of my family information this morning, I note that I have a lot of information on my Martin connection, which stems from Valentine Martin (1710-1760), whose will was probated in Cumberland Co., VA. This line was apparently of French Huguenot descent. Martin Martin and his wife, Sarah Hix, are the parents of Valentine. Martin died in New Kent Co., VA but he owned land in Goochland Co., VA, which at the time of his purchase was part of Henrico Co. If details on this Martin line might be useful to anyone, please let me know. Fawn Kennedy Dessy
Nancy: Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you, but my work (unfortunately) prevents me from spending very much time on genealogy. I found a ton of information a couple of years ago on the Young Family Genealogy Forum, but my emails to the poster of the information were not answered. The information is not indexed, and appears to have been posted by a Stewart Stanfield on August 17, 2000, although there is also a reference to Richard Lawson whose email address was _richlawgeneaolgy@hotmail.com_ (mailto:richlawgeneaolgy@hotmail.com) . There are several references to ties in to the Cherokee in this family line, but again, detailed source information is not included, on what I found. Maybe it has been updated by now, and I would encourage you to see if you can find this information on line. The information is that John Young, born in Ireland, married a woman, whose name is unknown, and had three (not two as I earlier stated) kids, a Mary, who married Thomas Kennedy (no known relationship to me, despite the fact that my maiden name is Kennedy, from the Kennedy line that descends from William Taptico, last Werorance {chief} of the Wiccocomico Powhatan tribe), Elizabeth who married a McDaniels, and John as to whom we have no information. John had a second marriage to a Ms. Adkins, who is noted as "prob. Cherokee Indian," which marriage apparently occurred in Maury Co., TN. Many of the descendants went to Alabama. This information states that Reese Porter Young was born in 1849, died in 1936, but does not have information on who he married. Reese's parents were William Carroll Young born 1822 in TN, died 1898 in Webster Co., Mo, and Sarah Jane Rhea born 1842 in TN, d/o Alexander Ray and Zilphy Garrett. Apparently Zilphy was born in 1822 in TN and died in 1909 in Webster Co., MO. John Young and Ms. Adkins are the parents of William Carroll Young and would be Reese's grandparents. I have appear to have left the rest of my Young information at my other office, but I recall my grandmother talking about her grandparents, Reese and Nancy Oney Haymes. My grandmother was named Ona, after Nancy, but she said Nancy did not like her, and the feeling was mutual. I have a picture of Nancy, and she doesn't look too friendly. Does your information show that Jane Love married Reese Young? I just want to make sure we are on the right track. If you can't find the Young info online, let me know, and I will go through the pages I have to see if I can find another Reese and the Love surname. Fawn Kennedy Dessy
Osiyo Glee! Where are your ancestors from?. My Butler side is from Grainger Co, TN. and I cannot find anything on his parents nor siblings. We suspect that his dad was James M Butler and mother Unity Whitehead. Family passed down history say he was 1/4 to 1/2 and his wife Ellen Virginia Ro(w)land fullblood. They are not on any rolls that I have found. Debbie, I am enormously grateful for you my genealogy friend!!!!! You share an incredible amount of data! Still working through these Martin families. They have to be collaterals. I see a lot of naming patterns which match, some of the dates. I purchased a copy of " Maryland and Virginia Colonials: Genealogies of Some Colonial Families" by Sharon J. Doliante. It is an excellent resource. I appreciate the recommendation. Anyway, book arrived in yesterday's mail and have not had time to do anything but glance. I tend to get 'the busies' (from Grandma's quotes) in the month of July and things move a little more slowly. I need to check on the Harris lineage more closely and get notes of that to you. OR did I already do that? Off top of my head.....Thomas Harris/Harrison (he used both variously depending on the document) in the mid 1700's married to Jemima Bayliss. More on that later. My mom is a Wolfe.....from Laurens Co, SC....we may have a connection there also? More on that later! Thank you again so very, very much! Your kindness will multiply! Ila
Fawn, Can't make a connection with your Martins.....not yet anyway! Thanks so much for sending your data. Ila

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Scott b. about 1781, md. 1812 to Samuel Bazel. Elizabeth is suppose to be Cherokee. They lived in Roane Co., Tn. Any information on Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frances AK
