    1. Re: [CherokeeGene] Native DNA
    2. Evelyn Hutto
    3. Hi Theresa, If I understand your comments correctly, I would like to tell you my experience. All Mexicans did not come from Spain. When the Spanish came over to South and Central America, they were met by 'Indians' just like in North America. There are people in both South and Central America that are of Spanish ancestry, some of other European ancestries, some are of Indian ancestry and some a mixture of all. Their DNA might reflect this. It is a common mistake to generalize and think that all Mexicans are of Spanish ancestry. If you look at them you can see the differences and easily pick out the ones that are more of the Indian ancestry. These are mostly shorter, darker and have dark eyes and hair. There will be exceptions due to mixtures. My mother's aunt married a Mexican of Spanish ancestry and their sons were white and tall. The grandchildren are white, light haired and blue eyed. She was from Puerto Rico. My father is American and my mother is from Puerto Rico of Spanish ancestry. Yet the mtDNA on her Puertorican father is A2 considered Amerindian or from the Taino Indians of the Carribean. His YDNA is R1b1b2 considered very European. We had no idea there was Indian blood in the family. This Spanish ancestry has a lot of blond, blue eyed people. This also should answer your comment about the NA DNA not showing if you have Spanish or Portuguese DNA. My grandfather had both. I do not mean to cause a problem but I just wanted to clarify this generalization. 3. Everything I can access has to be online because I am too far away from town now to go to the library, I have to pay for everything :( Dan's suggestion of making a list for the DNA sites & such is a good idea. If we have 1 website/page that we can go to w/o having to do a search for everything, that'd be great. Itd be kind of neat if we could give them "stars" for how good they are based on consumer opinion :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adiene Humble" <ahumble@consolidated.net> To: <cherokeegene@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 06, 2014 2:03 PM Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Changes at Ancestry.com > Use the library sources, Most were written BEFORE commercial sites > > Sent from my iPhone

    3. I was on the phone with Familytreedna this morning. They are continuing the dna collection. I used them to begin with. I think one of the reasons that Ancestry probably quit doing the dna is, that I know a number of people that were confused about who was doing what. Because Ancestry .com owns the Family Tree Maker program, it was easy to assume that FTdna was also a part of their domain, but it isn't. 3. Read last night that some test are stopped as of now. Don't remember but was only on ancestry site. Unfortunately not even sure I wasn't on a bogus site. Do I sound paranoid, I am. You do not understand what I went through and still do. Like logins and I'm really careful as I called and talked to ancestry. I had found I had two accounts I didn't make with no profile. 3. Agree. You can learn something even with someone you don't agree with Sent from my iPhone On Jun 6, 2014, at 10:03 AM, "Dan M" <mygen2@d-matney.com> wrote: Yes, and I know of a few who just read mainly now and we loose their resources because some one else decided to do battle with them - even off list, this caused a loss on list. Several people have told me of problems with other members over the years. I can't say who, it is a trust - I don't save those messages so they can get into the wrong eyes. But I can say - we would have a far better list if people would only read, visit and save the ( words that do not need to be used) for silence. Every one is entitled to their own opinions in research. Even if it is to be proved a myth - that can be done with polite facts. No need for any other reactions. Then people won't just read - or start new lists to get away from hostile posts. 3. It's also a place for hackers who take ownership of your computer. I know for a fact. There redirect as well to a site they've set up. I seldom visit Facebook but the one time in ages I was hacked. He even moved a copy of the conversation I'd put in a Word program and I suspect some sort of notification .dll . Word wouldn't respond. He was a Democratic computer whizz who'd worked in Washington DC behind scenes. His words not mine. His expertize was verified by someone who knew him. Her words to me "Be Careful". Besides sites are all about money. Who isn't except us researchers. Sent from my iPhone On Jun 6, 2014, at 12:12 PM, Karen <starknight51@yahoo.com> wrote: Did Facebook purchase ancestry.com then? Had read earlier that either they or Google was looking to buy. I've seen a real push on every page trying to get us to submit info to Facebook and other "social" pages. Facebook is not best place for genealogy. To much 'other' stuff going on there - in my case most friends, family, and acquaintences not interested much geneaolgy (maybe when they get older they will). I'm very disappointed in the direction ancestry.com appears to be going having always enjoyed them in the past - my peaceful haven & refuge away from the rest of the world & it's cares. It was a secure feeling like having a private 'club' seperated from the rest of the internet world, but now with all these "social" network links being added to every ancestry page & a push for us to be continually interact the outside world (these SOCIAL SITES) it makes me feel very unconfortable. We are a unique people (many older) in our love & deep interest in family who are no longer among the living. Many of our ancestors who have passed, we know little of if anything yet we will put many concentrated hours & much focus, deep study, and searching as we learn about them and build our trees. We need our own separate corner of the web like ancestry.com has always been in the past for these interests & pursuits rather than a social website like Facebook which is basically a free for all for the living & all about the LIVING where we research & study the DEAD ... big difference ... the workings of the two websites as 'one' do not co-mingle together well. On FaceBook too many distractions like pop up messages about other things etc. Yes, Facebook is nice in it's right place, like for me it's popping in to see what the kids & grand-kids are doing & seeing new pictures etc - love that. But we're kind of like a Professor with our deep family research & study, then to be thrown into Facebook would be like being thrown on to the basketball court. Kind of hard to explain but believe many of you know what I'm trying to say. ~ Karen On Friday, June 6, 2014 9:32 AM, Joyce Gaston Reece <bjreece@bellsouth.net> wrote: > > > The article Joy sent the link for tells what they are doing.
