    3. Yep I love helping other's......I figure if I can help other's find their family maybe my family will start coming out of the wood work :) Well, its been 8 yrs & I'm back to being stuck LOl I measure about 4 times before I am somewhat sure. I just learned that an Aunt that was married to my Great Uncle (Floyd Allen Johnson "Cotton") is suppose to be a Phariss (Noma Phariss) that I never knew but its been confirmed by at least one Aunt, waiting for confirmation by a daughter of these 2) then to top it off I thought Great Aunt Noma's maiden name was Green, which apparently its not......but we apparently have several in our family tree.........still waiting to find out who. UGH To add to the maze LOL about my "book" I think it'll be more of a binder type thing as it'd be too difficult/costly to make it into an actual book. But maybe if I find a cemetery that's no longer accepting "members" :) then I'll make that into a book (won't have to add anything LOL) But for right now I'm just working on them in my home town (Twin Falls, Idaho) & some surrounding towns. I'd like to work on the Chelsea Cemetery as that has the majority of my family buried there. But that'll have to wait for when I move back there :) Alli > That is fantastic, Alli. Good luck on your book. I appreciate your support about sometimes coming across misinformation or the lack of information at all and how it could get someone off on the wrong path if they accepted it verbatim. It happens often enough, especially with all the exact same or similar names and dates etc. What's that old saying? Measure twice and cut once, LOL. Something like that. This caveat is not intended for any specific site, btw. I have an insatiable need for my family history and I love helping others connect the dots, as well. Ok, now back to your book. What localities are you concentrating on? I have lots of cemetary photos I have visited too, mainly in the Oklahoma City, Tahlequah areas. Thanks. > > Jerri

I went to the funeral home that now owns it requesting the info. (location) based on these past records the grave doesn't exist, the lady swears it does. So I decided that I'd canvassing the whole Cemetery writing down names of every head stone marked, every possible grave, every broke or damaged headstone, sunken grave, etc. Then after I got thru almost one complete section (w/the help of hubby & kids tagging along) I decided that what I REALLY needed to do was to take pictures of the headstones so there was "proof" of existence. 2 digital cameras & a cam corder later I'm working on being 1/2 way thru & putting things in order. 1. Prosperous Native?
    2. Peter Hanson
    3. My maternal grandmother claimed to have Native American roots (supposedly Cherokee)...there is only one branch in my family that hasn't yet been traced out of the US. Washington Temple MILLER was born in 1815 Jefferson Cnty, KY. He lived in Alton and Chicago Illinois for most of his life, from 1830-1888. Miller is obviously a common name, but it is also frequent in Native tribes. That and the origin from KY promotes the possibility of Cherokee/native. He married a SMITH whos parents were from NY and CT...also a possible Native connection. I wonder though if it really is possible that WT Miller had Native American origins: he held some very prominent positions (mostly in Alton, Illinois). He was an alderman, a police constable, owned and subdivided hundreds of acres of real estate, was an Illinois State representative for the creation of one of the railroads, an officer in the Tippencanoe club, a banker, a lumberyard owner, a merchant.... During this time period, would someone of NA orgins been able/allowed to be in such positions? If not, then my focus should probably be on his wife's family when tracing NA roots. Thanks for any suggestions/help Pete Hanson

    2. > I would like your opinions as to whether this information helps or not. Judy, what information there is in the Dawes rolls I believe is correct. You have to keep in mind that spelling of the names could be different or even the names on roll is according to what information our ancestors gave out. My Cherokee ancestors did not sign up on the rolls even though part of their family did. So the rolls are no benefit to my genealogy unless I am looking for relatives of my ancestors. 3. Hi Judy! Didn't mean to be insensitive about the accessgnealogy site. I never doubted a lot of hard work went into it. Maybe I should have said even the NARA site seems to have a few minor glitches. No one site is perfect, which is exactly my point. I always think it is a good idea to check out one's sources for themselves, by obtaining hard copies of the facts from NARA or whomever, not to rely solely on a site or other people's findings on forums. However, that caveat aside, I think these sources can be an excellent springboard to launch one towards authenticating their own family's genealogy. Heaven knows it surely has helped me often enough! I am grateful we have so many online sources. Thank you for all your hard work. Don't ever think about giving it up. We appreciate you!!! I posted that opinion because this site has been quiet for so long. It was not my intention to flame anyone. 3. That may be true, Jerri, but for most researchers just finding the name could be half the battle and they probably wouldn't have such an easy time of finding it if Judy and Dennis didn't have it there. I think, perhaps, it should be up to the individual researcher to wade thru the information for themselves. I have a great respect for your knowledge when it comes to NA research but we must remember that there are those who don't have that much knowledge and need a site such as this to help them along. I think maybe they don't have the time nor staff to check for duplications or into the problem you mentioned. You do a wonderful job in guiding people along.
