    3. Fairly slowwwwww, Jerri. I'm to the point of disgust and not having more primary resources. I'm so burnt out on the 'snowball' effect of inaccurate information which has been written in book after book that I'm at a standstill. Loads of conflicting information and seemingly no way to locate correct data. Have you found good resources for primary info? I keep hearing hints about there being historical documents/information that belong to the Cherokee concerning the very early years...before the entry of the white man in the late 1600's to 1700's. Have you heard this or found anything? I'm running out of ideas of where to look. Do you have copies of or do you know where one can get the 7 small volumes of the early South Carolina colonial records (they're blue, paperback) SC Governors correspondence...Glenn, Johnson and others? I have copies of letters from Fort Loudon to Gov. Lyttleton Besides this we are adding a room onto the house, it's hunting season and I work the standard 40 hrs a week. 3. Hi Joyce, Thank you so much for this! I have never heard it. My Cherokee line starts with Michael McDonald, b. 1750-58. He was an Itinerant Scottish trader (who migrated from VA to the Cherokee nation about 1774) married a Full Blood Cherokee Woman, her Christian name was Judy Elizabeth MADOC / MODAC / MODOC. I couldn't believe it when I saw the Madoc in the story, as I haven't seen this name on the internet very often. Michael and Judy married in 1777 in Overton Co.TN. Their daughter, Sarah Sally McDonald, b. 1778, married Jobe Carlock(Mohawk Indian), and another daughter, Nancy, married Clemmons S. Means. Patience McDonald, another of Michael and Judy McDonalds children married J.M. Turner, and this line is said to connect to my husbands Cherokee line(his line is proven). I have not yet worked on my line, but my Mother has been working on it for about 30 years. She has lots of documentation, but it is all boxed up and haven't been looked at in years. She had made several trips the east to research-in the time before computers- and when she finally got a computer, she just entered the major information. If anyone has any info on Michael McDonald and Judy Elizabeth Madoc/Modac/Modoc, I would be quite thankful to get it. Thanks again for the post! Pat Reference in a book, THE JACKSON FAMILY HISTORY , by Joe C. Jackson pub. 1988. ( Also in " The Beckoning Hand" by Joe Jackson.-I am not sure but this may be the same book as the Family History book just listed). The Jackson family comes into this through ALICIY CARLOCK , daughter of Jobe Carlock and Sarah McDonald who married Dawson Jackson and she claimed to be Cherokee and it was recorded in a Jackson Family Bible that she was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. *Michael and Judy has one other child and a grandchild from yet another child that are listed in different family Bibles that state they are also Cherokee. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joyce G. 3. The Legend of MadocJoe Guy is McMinn County Tennessee's Historian The Legend of Madoc “Hidden History” Joe Guy In the year 1170, a ship named the Gwenan Gorn left the coast of Wales. It was commanded by a Welsh prince, Madoc ap-Owain Gwynedd, and held a group of fellow Welsh adventurers. Madoc was the last of the 17 sons of King Owain Gwynedd, and after the death of his father Wales erupted in war between Madoc’s brothers. Having no desire to fight with his family, Madoc decided to travel to a distant land, far to the West over the ocean, a place it is believed he had visited before. The following year, it was recorded in Welsh history that Madoc’s ship had “ventured far out over the Western ocean never to return”, and so it was assumed that Madoc and his friends had been lost at sea. But a legend remained that Madoc had not perished, but had found a distant land after all. Three hundred years later, Christopher Columbus was a swash-buckling mercenary sailor known as a corsair. He had heard about Madoc in his travels between Iceland and Portugal, and Columbus was intrigued by the legend. This information was part of the reason Columbus petitioned Queen Isabella to fund the historic voyage on which he “discovered” America. Columbus, on his second voyage, saw old wrecked ships of European design in the area of the West Indies, and wrote on his map that “These are Welsh waters”. Then there is Quetzalcoatl. Quetzalcoatl was an Aztec Indian god who was pictured as a White man with a yellow beard. When Hernando Cortes invaded present day Mexico in 1520, he learned of the “white god” legend, and that Quetzalcoatl had visited the Aztecs many years before and had promised one day to return. Cortez pretended to be the fabled Quetzalcoatl, and thereby overthrew the Aztec Indians. There are those today who connect Quetzalcoatl with Madoc. In 1810, former Tennessee Governor John Sevier recorded a conversation he had had many years earlier with the famed Cherokee Chief, Oconostota. While conducting a military operation against the Cherokee in 1782, Sevier saw several strange-looking stone fortresses in the area of present day Chattanooga. He inquired of Oconostota of their origin, to which Oconostota replied: “It is handed down by the forefathers that the works had been made by the white people who had formerly occupied the country now called Carolina (Tennessee).” When Sevier asked who the white people were, the Chief answered that “he heard his father and grandfather say that they were a people called Welsh, and they had crossed the great waters and landed first at the mouth of the Alabama River near Mobile and had been driven up the heads of the waters until they arrived at Hiwassee River.” In 1854, Benjamin Bowen recorded an Indian who spoke of ancient White people who once lived on Conasauga Creek. Ev! en today, stone fortifications remain at places such as Old Stone Fort in Manchester, Tennessee, Desoto Falls on Lookout Mountain, and Fort Mountain in Chatsworth, Georgia. Archaeologists and historians remain puzzled as to who actually built these sites. Other stories remain of early hunters encountering Indians in the Appalachian region who had light skin and blue eyes. In many Indian cultures are stories of whites who had come to them long ago, long before the Spanish, “wolf” in Cherokee is “waya”, in Welsh, it is “wayman”. Shawnee words such as glass, father, old, water, and dance match the Welsh words almost exactly. Ancient Roman coins have been found in Mobile Bay, Louisville, Kentucky, and as far west as Missouri. Were they left by a twelfth-century band of Welshmen who were eventually absorbed by Native American tribes? Or is there some other explanation? Today, in Alabama’s Mobile Bay, is a marker placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution commemorating the landing of Prince Madoc at Mobile Bay in the year 1170. While the legend remains, evidence is thin. But in this piece of Hidden History is the possibility of white Welshmen who saw the beauty of East Tennessee three hundred years before Columbus set sail.

Regards The other Barbara Hi Barbara, I know very little about him as my grandmother never did discuss her Grandfather Samuel and never talked about her Grandmother Rachel. The legend that has came down is that Grandpa Wood would not put his family on the rolls because of the intermarriages with the black slaves. I know from the time my Greatgrandma Amanda was born in Virginia in 1852 the time had passed for them to come on the Trail of Tears. I think that they were told not to talk about their Indian blood. I have a picture of Rachel and she sure looks Native American, my little Grandma did too. I will keep your email in my files and maybe someday my brick wall will come down. Thank you for asking. 1. Brock DNA Results
    2. Joyce G. Reece
    3. I am NOT an expert on DNA results so will put this statement in layman's terms. DNA testing has been completed and posted at www.sekybrocks.com on descendents of Jesse Brock and Mary Osborne. NONE of these results reveal any Native American heritage in this lineage. mtDNA tests run on the sister of Jesse Brock (Mahala) also disprove any NA heritage. These results most assuredly put very serious doubts on the Chief Red Bird/Aaron/Jesse theories that have floated around the internet for quite sometime. The Sizemore DNA also reveals that there is NO kinship between any Sizemore descendents and Brock descendents...thus disproving the supposed marriage between Jesse Brock and Rhoda Sizemore. The Sizemore also does NOT reveal NA heritage. Joyce Gaston Reece

Susan, I start with Samuel Wood married to Rachel Graham, their children were Amanda, Green Berry, Ann, Lizza, Elick and Charles. Samuel was born in Virginia as was Amanda and Green Berry unknown about the other children. The only time I have found him was in the 1880 Young County Texas Census. Rachel I have found nothing on her but hearsay is she was born in West Virginia. We have traced Green Berry from Texas to where he died in California but still have not found where Samuel or Rachel died and she was not on the 1880 census he had another wife listed with him there. Amanda was my Great-grandmother so I have most on her. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you very much. Barbara In Oklahoma Native America
