Carolyn, Thank you So much! Julie
Have a few Downings...Betsy, Jack, Jim, Martin, William, and Unknown. Also Vanns...Unknown, Andrew, Ave, David, J., Joseph and Margaret. Which ones are yours? They are too involved to transcribe so many. You may want to purchase the book for yourself. I got mine at the Cherokee Nation Gift Shop in Tahlequah but there are likely other places. I looked for Riley, Lynch and Brady. The only one found is a John Riley listed as a delegate in 1841 to the Tuscaloosa (Baptist) Association meeting. That is the only year John Riley is mentioned. Since he is not mentioned on the membership lists for later, he may have moved out of the area. Carolyne, Thank you so much for your offer. my family of "Riley"s also come from the Alabama area. Thomas Jefferson or Jeff Riley (m) Mary Lynch in 1843 in Mobile County I do not know where they lived. They did move before the main move.. and was going to Oklahoma.. however, something happened to Mary Lynch on the way. And he remarried to Carolyn Brady. I wish I knew more, right now I do not. I am not sure where they lived, or the parents of my family members here. If you can, Thank you, Very much. It was a very kind offer, thank you so much for your time. Julie Puplefroggigger@aol.com

Hi Susan, Sorry, no Brights listed. Jerri --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
Hi Everybody, I have the 1842 Cherokee Claims from Saline District compiled by Marybelle W. Chase. If anyone wants me to look up their ancestors in the book, please let me know. Saline District was sandwiched between Delaware District to the north and Tahlequah District to the south in 1840. Going Snake District was to the southeast. The book contains copies of the actual writing, many of them signed by my GGG-Grandfather, Jonathan Mulkey, Clerk of the Cherokee Nation Courts, so some of it is hard to decipher. I have gotten a copy of the book "At Liberty on Bear Creek, 1835-1985, a 150th Anniversary History of Liberty Baptist Church, Hagler, Alabama," by Charles E. Boyd 1984. Although it is not a primary source document, there are extracts from the minutes of the church and some biographies. I am researching some of the families in the book and I feel some of them moved ahead of the Trail Where They Cried rather than face forced removal. A small group of people started this church in 1835. It was on the border area of Bibb and Tuscaloosa County and I am told that even today people argue over which county it was in. There are also other churches in Alabama with a similar name, so the town of Hagler should help you narrow down the location. The families seem to have moved together and migrated together. The lines I am searching and that are in the minutes included Allen, Johnson, Reed, Reid, Jones, King. Some of the native names noted in the minutes include Boyd, Bracknell, Brazeal, Jolly, Lowery, Ward, etc. I am willing to do lookups for people who may have had ancestors in that area. The index is too long for me copy, so please check your family's migration pattern with maps to see if they were in that area circa 1835-1880. List the names you are looking for and I will see if they are there. Please be patient regarding replies. I am recovering from cancer surgeries and still visiting doctors while trying to work. I will answer eventually. Carolyne

Joyce- Here are resources from the University of Florida. They have both microfilm and books. Nancy >>0<< Guidance for students undertaking research in Prof. Jon Sensbach's course AMH 3930: The Colonial South. For tips on searching the library catalog, see the first section below. Then look through the compilation of primary source material that follows it. I have put together an annotated list of primary documents that deal with the American colonies before and during the Revolution. All these materials are available from the U.F. Library. They are listed under four headings: (1) general primary sources or documentary collections on the colonial period; (2) regional information (mostly for the southern colonies), including runs of colonial newspapers held on microfilm; (3) primary sources about the American Revolution; and (4) selected papers and writings of the Founders. There are additional materials (not listed) concerning the early American republic and the early history of the thirteen states (plus the territories and neighboring borderlands). Note: Due to the closing of the Main Library, I have given you the most up-to-date information I have on the current location of materials. At least some of the microfilm sets must be requested from off-campus storage. Others will be on-hand in Special Collections.
