I have recently became an in-home caregiver for an Elderly couple (mainly the husband), he is part Indian (I don't know his %) & of course don't remember the tribe off hand. But he's got some really cool family photos & antiques & I think she might also have some indian blood too, so I'm really excited to pick their brains about this stuff & see if they can help me, she's already offered too. 3. Hi, Adiene! My husband is actually a Hathorn and we are fairly certain his grandmother was Mississippi Choctaw, but he was adopted at age 12 by his stepfather, Talmadge Reynolds. I wish I could say from where the Reynolds name derives. I know Talmadge's parents' information but his grandparents are a mystery except for the names Steve Reynolds and Mary Fugler or Fulger from Henry Robert Reynolds' social security application. I have never been able to identify them positively and could never find Henry in the household with his parents. Interestingly, I found a tree that I have not yet confirmed with Talmadge's mother's line - Hare - that connected his mother to one of my mother's paternal lines in Lincolnshire, England. Benjamin Hare adopted the name Eyre for his children. He was my 3X great grandfather. This tree had either one of Benjamin's uncles or one of his brothers as Hattie Hare's grandfather. It's a good thing he was John's stepfather. If that relationship can be proven, that makes the relationship too close for comfort. I am only a 3rd generation off the boat American in that line. My other lines go back to Jamestown in 1623 and to Pennsylvania colonists who came over with Penn in the late 1600s. John's father was Bobby Devere Hathorn who died in 1994 and was born in Winston County MS in 1929 and died in Knoxville, TN in 1994. There is rumored Cherokee blood in the Hathorn line, but I have about discredited that. I can't even prove Bobby's mother was Choctaw - mostly because I haven't really worked very much in the Choctaw records. In fact, I can't get any further back than the 1790's when the three Hathorn brothers - yes, there really were three - appeared in SC, reportedly from Ireland. They are not on a census that gives birth place and their children had them born in SC rather than Ireland. 3. Well. I was teasing. But, did you ever think, in that sense. How Jesus got the Y? Or did Jesus have a full set of dna, or just the female parts and how did he get the Y? Then, if Jesus fathered a child with half the DNA, would he have transferred the whole set to the mother to have all the dna in the new child? Just a thought. History is Mystery. Dna is finding more uses. I always wondered If the Y dna is not passed by the female - how did it get into the baby male? Remember - there were many ships here ( before ) Columbus. How do we know, some of those did not add to the mix? Columbus claimed a mixed people he saw. Wearing turbans. The Vikings and Chinese were here hundreds of years before even Desoto. Europeans have been proved to be here 12,000 years before the first peoples. Then there is a research near the great lakes show tech 40,000 years ago of copper tools and arrow heads and then the center USA has other artifacts being studied. I have seen many races of people talked about being here, and I read what the archeologists find. So far, its getting to be a whole new system of a way of studies. Still with no conclusions. We wait. I think, the important thing to me now is, where did my DNA travel from to get here. I watched a video " Finding the Adam" a "Y" dna study to find out how far back they could get. Their conclusions were, Ethiopia, they lived on the coast, in those days the body needed sea food, dna mutated; some left the coast and went to other places, not needing sea food any more. This was said to be the reason people migrated - ?? - oh well, they said it not me ! I find lots of things interesting, but there are so many lies out there, it is easy for some one to make crazy claims. I think - there were more than one human like race here on our planet that never met each other, but the remains are still here. One tribe I did find interesting were the Chumash. I see all this, as an up in the air mystery. For now. 3. Susan, I noticed your last name was Reynolds, perhaps a husband's name, however my family dates back to Isaac and Jane George Reynolds who were in Texas by 1834 or so. He was from Columba, Richland SC area. The George family was in Alabama and as Isaac was born in 1793 and was the son of Isaac Reynolds Sr or Shropshire, England and Sylvia (1754) Reynolds. They moved on very quickly. Perhaps because the George name is NA Adiene -----Original Message----- From: Alli :) Sent: Saturday, July 05, 2014 7:57 PM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Basques So would I Susan so would i Even if it was just back far enough to find my 4th great grandparents :) -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene- How I'd love to be able to travel back in time to know for certain! 3. Susan I agree with you. What more, with the advancement of our technology, they are finding evidence to support their theories, such as the recent discoveries found beneath the Dead Seas plus other underseas discoveries of the bodies of an early woman and a child that they believe to have found it's way underground and to the seas that the Mexico government finally agreed to DNA and other testing of these skeltons. Anything is possible. It's not what race we are nor where we come from but what we do with our lives. In my gggrandfather's time when he came to Texas being a half breed was unexceptible, now, people are paying to prove they are Native Americans!!!! I think we can all agree that some of the great mysteries will lead to surprising results when we attempt to unravel them. I wonder though - why did they only do mtDNA? Did they not have any male skeletons to work with? In any given population it is far more likely the women will be from outside groups. They were easy prey for marauders, far more easily captured than warrior males and carried to far off places, impregnated by consent or otherwise. The male population, on the other hand was often far more stable, although often not so long lived because they lived a very dangerous life. I'd like to know what the other side of the DNA says. We only have one side of the story. There's no reason to believe Atlantis didn't exist. In every story there is at least a grain of truth at the core. The Atlantis myth or story, however you chose to label it, is no different. It just depends on how large the grain of truth might be. Could there have been an advanced population here long before modern man wants to believe? One whose homeland was destroyed and the remnants of that society fanned out across the globe, or at least the areas Cayce named? Certainly! I think it is supreme arrogance to think we are the only technologically advanced people that have ever been. Archaeological evidence leads to a different conclusion. Are we the only advanced people in the whole of creation? Again, I think likely not. There is much out there of which we have no knowledge. But it's also not right to present as fact what we cannot back up as fact and for which we have only myth - in the historical sense, not myth as in a false but widely believed story. We can neither prove nor disprove any of it, so it remains a mystery to us. What I find very interesting is the presence of haplogroup X. The article notes this type is found frequently in Iroquoian populations. The Cherokee would belong to this group unless they simply adopted the language and are not of the same genetic stock. It would be very enlightening to do a comparison. I have long wondered if the Cherokee came from the same stock as many of the other Native Americans. So many of the Cherokee, even before admixture, did not resemble the other nations and their culture and mythology is often quite different as well.
