There is a new book just released that would probably provide information on why some of our ancestors hid their ethnicity. Now, I think most of us know why; but, I often run across other people who don't understand the various whys. I haven't read this book --- it is just out and didn't even come up on a search via Amazon.com. The article is book review that is quite descriptive. Carolyne Ethnic Cleansing in Texas A new book recounts the years of battle that resulted in the deaths of several thousand indigenous Americans. those w/the Roll books, I would like to see if anyone could look up a name. I have the Cherokee Roots book for the Eastern band of Cherokee, but I can't locate it right now (I organized my stuff a while back, now I can't find anything LOL) Anyway, I need to see if someone can look up Loafman. A guy had asked me if I was familiar w/the name as he was told his Great grandma was Cherokee. He doesn't know her first or maiden name but her married name was Loafman. I'm waiting to find out more info. on his family to make it (hopefully) a bit easier to help. Anyway, if you could help. I'd appreciate it Alli :) http://geocities.com/eaglewhowatches/ saddles & baby furniture for sale

These are not my words, this was sent to me, I tried it and it really does work!! On the 1910 Census when searching for Native Americans enter Last name in the First name box and enter Indian in the Last name box. Such as Keel Indian, this will give you all indexed Native American Keel's. You can also enter in just the First name and use Indian as the Last. Such as George Indian, this would give you all George's who are Native American. Carolyn, I realize it wouldn't reflect all of them, but it would be nice to know how many did say they were and the states they were living in. Joy ----- Original Message ----- From: Carolyne Gould To: CherokeeGene-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 10:21 PM Subject: Re: [CherokeeGeneCommunity] Free Look ups Joy, I don't think anyone has, but, even if someone had extracted everyone marked Indian, it wouldn't reflect all the Indians actually on the census. Some were marked white and some were marked colored, and some Negro, depending on the area in which they lived, the mood or education of the enumerator, and sometimes even their financial status.
